Not sure what stereo system this is

I have 2 subs under the seat and a eq in the idrive setting hopefully u guys can tell from the way the speakers look. I highly doubt it's HK

Sub may be fine. I had terrible tinny sound when I bought the car and finally convinced the service tech that the amp was blown. Which it was. They dropped in a brand new one under warranty and the system sounds very solid now. Still not as good as the premium system that came in my '06 330i. Can only do get so much bass response with a short throw woofer jammed in that small space under the seat.

To be fair to the EPS in our later model E9x's, the stereo in the 330i back in '06 was ass kicker. Logic 7 system with 13 speakers that included 2 subs. Speaks were driven by something like 300w through a 7 channel matrix that created a surround sound that was very accurate and big. FYI the surround setting on our Enhanced Premium Sound just plain sucks. Leave it off when you work the EQ to tune or you will never get a clean sound.

HK and Logic7 were never available on the M3. There was base (below those two) and the one you have, known as Enhanced Premium Sound or the Individual Audio System and billed as the top-end system available, I believe even compared to the audio options in other Series lineups -- but not sure on that last part. (EDIT: Seems Logic7 was available for 2008 and/or in some on-US markets??)

As for swapping the amp, the head unit connects to the stock amp over fiber optic (and I'm pretty sure it's MOST, not something easier like TOSLINK), so you'd at the very least have some extra work cut out for you. I know with the regular series cars, some stereo options could be coded to output some sort of more aftermarket-friendly signal type (memory on that one is rusty), but I don't think that applies to this system.

Lol. Can't redline it all day long!!
But ur right there r times where I power down the stereo just to listen to that sound. It music to my ears!!

Not true - My 2008 M3 has the Logic7 surround sound system.

Logic 7 was only available overseas. Not available in North America.

We only get base and Enhanced Premium (Individual Audio). EPS audio sounds very good and it is the best audio system offered by BMW.
