M Sport Mocha Nappa durability?

Anyone who has driven their X5 for some time had any problems with the durability of the Mocha Nappa seats?

I read a few posts where some seem to be concerned about durability issues after delivery.

Thanks

I treat the napa leather every month and half or so.. When it's too dry it breaks and get "wrinkles" I noticed that if I apply leather conditioner and dry it right up, it keeps it from getting worst or more wrinkles... I like how it feels!

I had nappa extended leather in my M6 GC and I regretted it big time. I found it marked way to easy. It was delivered with a mark on the driver seat leather and when the BMW rep sat in the passenger seat to view the drivers seat he scored it with his belt!!

It looks gorgeous but wouldn't go for it again.

I got Nappa leather on my 2011 X5 and I got Mocha Nappa on my 2014 X5 35d. I love it and I never had any problems with it.

All of this is good to know. I have 10 days (6 now) to change my specs. My build is scheduled for the third week in April.

Is napa that fragile??

Nappa isn't fragile. It just has a softer temper than other leathers and therefore is considered more luxurious.

Any leather can be damaged if not careful.

I cuurently have Dakota in my 50i and I do admit it is very durable, hard and stiff but durable. I assume you have napa in your 50i, any issues or problems (scuff marks, scratches, etc.).

What is your intended use of the vehicle? Daily driver? Kids? Pets? That will help you decide whether or not the nappa is worth it longer term.

I don't keep my vehicles long (usually average 12-18 months) so it's never been a concern for me. I've had nappa or merino leathers in my past BMW's and it has held up well for my usage patterns, which is a daily, low mileage commute car, and typically just me.

I've learned to watch what I wear after scratching both leather and trims in the past. Just like when I'm working on the exterior (no belt, ring, watch) I try to do the same inside and just be cognizant of what I'm wearing and where my hands are.

No kids, but my wife does haul her grand children around sometime. Other than that, it's just us in the car. We plan on keeping it about 4-5 years. My wife like all women has he nails done, and she's not the most careful person around when it comes to being carfeul of what she has on, but that said, she won't do REAL stupid things like belts , but she does wear rings. Also, I assume that oil (suntan) will stain napa more than Dakota.

I never had the chance to look at a napa interior because none were available. The Dakota I have in mine is good, albeit on the hard side. My intent on getting napa, is something different than what we currently have and some confort.

I assume that you can't get comfort seats once you x-out the napa seats because it reverts back to Dakota sport seats since I have the M sport option which I think might even be harder than the standard Dakota.

Thanks so much for responding, I really need to get this right!

Dakota will certainly be more durable but I think your use case doesn't pose an issue for Nappa seats. You'll enjoy the comfort seats on longer drives and the more luxurious feel of the leather. It really is good. In the few short days I've had the car I've really enjoyed them.

I say go for it. Enjoy them and don't worry about it.

WOW, 9 great responses and no stupid comments from a forum rat! Must be a record!

Thanks for all the opinions. Our intention is for the vehicle to be a DD.

That being said, my wife's DD is vastly different than mine. I put on 40,000+ miles a year on my DD. She puts on 10-12K.

No more rug rats but we do have a GSD. They can be tough on seats!
I have a 13 M3 drop top and I think the leather is Nappa? It has the most comfy seats I have ever ones in a car!

Thanks for all the help, we are trying to sort out an order.

The E9x M3 had Novillo leather. Somewhere between Nappa and Merino.

You and me are the same. Got the order to the dealer, then saw your post. Now my wife changed a couple more things from fine line to poplar and from napa to Terra Dakota.

I wanted napa, but when she told me not to yell if she scratches the leather, I knew then that I better change!!
