When should dealer replace spark plugs under warranty?

Hey all,

Currently still under the factory warranty, at 49,300 miles approaching the end of the warranty. Noticed the dealer has yet to do the spark plugs and the 3rd engine oil service was done as well. Service advisor said it falls under the CBS and it only gets replaced if it indicates. After some research, I am hearing that it should've been done on the 3rd engine oil service and at 37k miles at the latest? Can anyone help lead me in the right direction? Warranty is coming up and I need to get this taken care of. Thanks!

Check your Service and Warranty booklet. I have a 2012 E92 M3 too. I downloaded the Service and Warranty book and the book dated 2011 says spark plugs on M3 should be changed at 37,000. According to the book, spark plugs are not show in the CBS - here's what the book says:

Spark plugs (not shown in CBS)
Maintenance work:
Replace spark plugs at the following intervals:
– 1 Series M Coupe: At every 3rd engine oil service.
– M3: 37,000 miles.

Maybe time to educate your service advisor.

Think service book says ITS NOT CBS related, due about 37,000 miles. Got mine with no issues at 31000, need another dealer. Someone in california help him out as where to go.

Tell your dealer to do it. My dealer didn't do it until I pointed it out that it was asked for at 37K miles.

I swear SAs just look at what the computer screen says and don't read anything. I once had a low mileage yearly oil change and then when I went in a month later, they changed the oil again since it was due based on mileage. What a waste of oil!

When I bought my car at 96k they had never been done! I received a massive file of service done to the car by the dealership. so make sure they do it. The parts are expensive so I'm sure the try to "overlook" as many cars as they can.

Can you tell me more about the massive file of service done? Are you referring to maintenance that should've been done at earlier intervals and they are honoring out of warranty?

Any advice on how to get the dealer to stand on your side with these issues? I know it's a costly service and prefer we pay out of pocket, but if it's covered in their own service guides it should be something they honor.

The massive file of service I referred to was the service history of of the car from day one. You can ask ask the dealer to print out its history. In the case of my car it had been through service a ton of times but only ever received oil and a few misc. things. It did not by any means get all of the required service items that it should have gotten during the warranty (free service) period. I was so fed up with the dealer for other reasons that I never really went after them for the neglect on my car. My car never got spark plugs it only got 1 new air filter 1 set of microfilters. it has the original wiper blades from the factory.
Back on topic. If I were you I would bring in the manual everytime you go into service and question them on what they did. I.e. "the car is at the 37k mile mark did you change the spark plugs as stated in the owners manual?" if no I would 1 change dealers or 2 contact bmw NA. Unfortunately all dealers are scum ESPECIALLY when it comes to free service or warranty claims. they want to just change the oil and send you on your way.
Also when they give you the paper with what service they did sometimes it says "standard scope" always question what they did. I feel like this is there way of covering there butts.
not every dealer is as bad as the ones I have dealt with. But always question what they do and be informed or they will walk all over you.

Hey all heres an update:

I e-mailed the dealer and referenced S65's maintenance requirements, which is called SI B 00 01 07. They looked it over and scheduled for me to come in. Was very friendly about my concerns. They were very helpful and accommodating. I highly recommend Fred at Shelly BMW. His service has been phenomenal.
