VOIP
My immediate family lives abroad and I have a really hard time calling them. From the constant buying of phone cards I'm kinda fed up (probably explains why I haven't called in a month ) anyway, I'm looking for a way to call them from my cell phone w/o going through Cingular. I dont have a home phone (which is why I'm shying away from phone cards) I can do the whole skype thing but the connection isnt that great...it's spotty and one end can't hear half the time. I know that there is the whole VOIP thing but I'm looking for someway to set up a local number here that I can call from my cell that connects to their home phone abroad. I know you can do this but I just dont know how. any help??

Yeah... lots of Vonage customers buy a local number and have it sent abroad so that when you call them, it's a local call. Don't even have to do what you were stating above.
Just setup the Vonage service and ship the VOIP router to them. All they have to do is connect to the internet. Call that local number, and voila, you are connected. The service is okay... Sometimes, when you dial from the Vonage service, it doesn't go through, so you have to hang up and dial again. Sometimes, it may cut off. It all depends on how stable your internet line is.

+1 on Vonage. I use them too. It's great and I really very rarely have any problems. I'd say its just as stable as my regular phone line when I had it.
Yes you can buy a local number and then send it out in fact they advertise for customers to do that when they travel. Good luck with it! |
