Engine

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me what is this circled reservoir in the m3 engine?

Does anyone have some sort of reference regarding all engine part descriptions here?

Thanks!

1- radiator fill resevoir
2-windshield wiper fluid fill
3-positive charge post
4-oil filler cap

not sure if serious or not as these would be labeled in the photo you used to post this.

Thanks all Yes I actually referred to the circled reservoir metro.

Regarding the wording of my request though, I've meant to ask if someone had the description of all components in the engine bay not just the 4 which are described in the manual and labelled 1-4 in this pic)

The same photo that you are posting here is in your manual with information about each labeled.

Just for a heads up your power steering fluid is prone to leak when you track or drive the car hard. This is for all M3's so don't freak out and post another goofy thread.

Huh, you are bang on, I've noticed some fresh fluid on the reservoir after heavy driving (not much but enough to see that it was fresh) and investigated the reason. Turned out to be a normal thing. I'll probably lower the level a bit later on to prevent spillage or browse through DIY's for some solutions to avoid overheating.

I guess during a prolonged track session you are bound to smell it burning a little.

Pretty sure you don't -- just have to top it off when you wash the car, or wait for the dash light to come on.

so top off until it overflows out of the neck? Sounds legit to me, that's how I do my engine oil!

but seriously though, i-drive will prompt me?

#4 is clearly for the SAE 5w olive oil recommended by Longwong.

Yeah, there's a low-fluid indicator, not sure if its in the iDrive but its definitely on the dash.

If you go with the blend you'll end up with a higher heavy metals ppm than with the straight EVOO according to the oil analysis I did with my pasta.

IMO, if you have signs of metal in your pasta, you may want to also check out the pot you're cooking with, or even your utensils. I'm a bit concerned for your family's safety until you figure out the issues from your oil analysis
