break in driving

I never looked up what the rpms should be under, but i asked the sales guy when i picked up my car and he agreed 5k rpm is fine. A few times the car pretty much forced me to go up to 6500 when i was accelerating, I think i'm fine at 300 mi.

Read the manual and it says this:

Drive at varying engine and road speeds, but do not exceed an engine speed of 4,500 rpm or a road speed of 100 mph/160 km/h.
Avoid full-throttle operation and use of the transmission's kickdown mode.

Question: What is "transmission kickdown mode?

Also, anybody really follow the 4500 rpm? kinda gradma driving for a while.

It's your car Do what you want with it. The manual says 4500. Yes we listen to it. But I'm curious, keep punishing it to 1200 miles and post a new thread showing what your fluids have In them

Here's some other interesting things from the manual:

Set off immediately
Do not let the engine warm up while the car is still standing, but set off immediately at moder- ate engine speed. This is the fastest way for the cold engine to reach its operating temperature.

Trunk:
If special circumstances make it absolutely nec- essary to drive with the trunk open:
1. Close all windows and the glass roof.
2. Greatly increase the air volume of the auto- matic climate control system, refer to
page 115.

Q: Why do they say to close all windows? Is that some kind of crash safety?

No answer to the transmission kickdown mode... my guess is that's when you accelerate and cause the transmission to step down to produce higher RPM. So they want you to accelerate only up to higher gears, then back down when reducing speed. That's a hard one to follow especially when you need to get out of a sticky situation or some dumb truck kicking rocks at your gorgeous ride

Kick-down is when your in D mode (fully auto) and you press the throttle past the point of resistance and it automatically gears down multiple gears.

While the car is off, floor it, then when it feels like you can't push anymore, use a little more force. That button feel is kick down.

When you have the trunk open, exhaust gases can enter the cabin through the trunk. When the air moves around your car, the air will circle around the car and force the exhaust gas into the trunk(drive on a dirt road and see how much dirt ends up on the back of your car). If you have the windows open, it can cause the gases to be sucked into the cabin of the car. By putting the windows up and running the air at a higher rate, it will cause the cabin to be full of air and will not allow the exhaust gas from being pulled into the car

Yes, I followed the break in except for maybe one or two quick moments of 5000rpm to get around someone. Was especially difficult for me to keep to 100mph on the Autobahn, but I think the car will thank me later.

2013 manual says 4500rpm/100mph.

Next trip to Munich will definitely involve putting all 1200 miles on the M4 there, then heading to the ring. 100mph just didn't cut it
