Homework assignment for 1M owners with unmodified cars
All: I am in need of a measurement spec.: From the bottom of the front fender lip to the center of the wheel (inches please, no metric, USA cars only, and they MUST be unmodified cars). The reason being I have measured two different VO cars and one was 14 ¼" and the other was just a click under 15". That is a BIG variance. So post your numbers, please! TYIA.

That 14 ¼" was a random VO car in Farifield, Connecticut. I ran over to the guy and asked if I could measure it (I had grabbed a tape measure out of my car). I said I had the 1M AW over there (pointing to it). He was cool about it and I asked if he was stock or different shocks and he said stock. I measured twice to make sure. This was Friday morning. Today I was at our Westport office and the company next door is a guy with a VO, too. I asked he came out and watched me measure. I was blown away by the 15". The front did seem to have more gap in between the fender and liner.
Seems there is a lot of range on this. If someone has access to internal BMW specs and can see what it says, that may explain the wide spread of numbers. PS: Seems like quite a few 1Ms in my area.

I am setting up KW struts to SCCA rules. Kerry and I have now seen quite a variance in ride height numbers. That's why we want numbers. We'll also take from the ground to the fender lip measurement too. It should be between 26" & 27". Many thanks!!

my roommates stock 09 335i with m sport package was .75 inches higher in the front than my coworkers stock 09 335i with m sport package. both were automatics with same wheels, tires...roommates car had 33k miles, coworkers car had 26k miles. it was weird.

I've never setup a BMW before, but with other cars, it is common to measure ride height from the chassis itself and not the body panels, due to variances in body work.
Is the fender to wheel center measurement the common way with BMWs? I suppose this measurement would eliminate variance in wheel/tire diameter as a variable. |
