M3 Powerhouse?
So we all know the new M?? will be released sometime soon...so with that being said, what HP figures would be optimal for you? I'd say about 45oHP & 45o-47oTQ...No more underpowered torque figures...plus think about this as well.BMW is moving away from NA engines sooo a tune with this would b crazy(maybe M5 numbers), even if it would the same as the older models, having turbos with tunes is going to be a breakthrough.

Next M3 engine capacity size leaked in Aus. Mag?
I just finished reading the latest 'Motor' magazine here in Aus (arguably the top selling motoring mag over here in Australia) ... BMW took out a 'centrefold' section that has around 5-6 pages dedicated to M .. on the last page they had a dedicated statement under the heading "M Powering the future" ..and then had text saying 'if that means a return to 5 litre naturally-aspirated V10 engines, so be it. If that means a move to 3.3 litre Turbo charge technology, so be it ..." therefore all these rumours of 3.3 mill with Turbo seems spot on for next M3 - how many turbo's is still up for grabs ...
also ..I spoke to my local dealer today about looking to buy a new V8 M3 sedan (need the practical element - even though I am cross shopping second hand 997 911's - either way they are around $190k AUD, close to US$200 k so not cheap) anyway .. I was asking about the M3 drive day at local track (want to have another blast around a track before deciding, I'm doing same with Porsche) ... what was interesting is that he was pretty much giving me an indication to 'hold off for now' due to new model on the way .. so I'm wondering the the new M3 sedan may in fact be coming over here to Aus early next year rather than 2014 in US etc .. hope so ..I'll hold off for a few months to find out |

The new F80 is at least a year out... directly from M in Garching and not some dealer.

BMW tends to have "round" figures in kilowatts of power. For example, the current M3 has 309kW. BMW M5 has 418kW. A good figure to keep the new M3 from beating the new M5, given the fact that the new M5 is quite heavy at 1920kg, would be like 320-335kW. Given the fact that the new M3 will probably be significantly lighter than the old M3 (lighter engine than the old V8 + carbon technology they showcased with the M3 CRT), I would say the 320-335kW (430-440hp - more likely 440hp) would be a good figure. Otherwise the M3 would beat the M5 on all magazine tests, and I'm not sure BMW wants this, they need to make money So I think the new M3 will have very close to 440hp. I fact, I can't make my mind between 430 and 440

Can confirm the last M3 sedans in Australia were sold early March 2012. I even put a deposit on a cancelled order M3 sedan on 1 March, only to miss out after the dealer stuffed up.
