Explanation of CDV mod benefits

As per the thread title, for those who don't know the real benefits of replacing the Clutch Delay Valve (CDV), this link is gold..

Hehe this is older than me. The crib notes are the CDV is for people who don't know how to (shouldn't) drive a manual car. If you know how to, get it removed -> improve clutch life.

i've been wanting this for the past few days. will get!

though, i don't find it as bad as most people say, i can still rev match/heeltoe very smoothly, it's just sometimes usually when driving gently there's a big clunk, and it's not super smooth when taking off SLOWLY.

wonder why the list on your link doesn't list the 130i. definitely has a CDV.

oh and i get a lot of slip going from 1-2-4, 1-2 is fine, but 2-4 clutch fully off barely any throttle and it just sliiippppsss.

ED:

"You can actually chirp the tires when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear! "

i can chirp mine going from 2-3 *sometimes* as it is. 1-2 pretty much without fail.

where's the cheapest place to get the replacement valve... this site?

My first mod on my 1M was the CDV within days of delivery... A must mod IMO.

I am surprised it is an issue on an M car? Can't quite work out why BMW would do this to a 1m, is it the same on other M's?

130/28 are Older though.
Thanks!

Whats the deal with the clutch stop shim? I have never ever fully depressed my clutch bar startup and if its up by even 1mm its too high, so that shim would just... Stop my car from working?

Also will that k&n filter fit rhd cars?

Don't buy one. I bought one only to discover that the existing CDV can be modified in 5 secs. Be sure to keep the insert in case you need to put it back in for a warranty issue. Also make sure you you have the line pressure bled properly by someone with the correct equipment. One of the easiest and cheapest mods to do.

True.. I always keep OEM parts.. you never know.

I had mine fitted by Peter@Advan Performance, and NO bleeding was necessary after install.. Peter is a pro.

1 X punch with a 4mm flat end.

1 X small modellers hammer.

After removing the valve from the line - place punch into valve and tap gently. Out pops the restrictor. Here then is your new valve. Replace the valve back in line. Your choice whether to pressure bleed or not. I did.

Guys whats the general concensus, modify the oem item or purchase a BMS item?

My car ran out of warranty last month, so I dont mind modifying the oem item,, but for the sake of $30 is it worth buying a nice new fresh item?

Just remove your CDV adaptor(restrictor cdv tube) and plug the two hydraulic lines together. That will work just fine. You will need to bleed the system though.

Finally got around to getting andrew to do my CDV at an oil change, noticable difference and ALOT easier to do smooth changes etc.

As I have mentioned in my original post, when Peter@Advan replaced my CDV, no bleeding was necessary.

Anytime the clutch hydraulic system is open, you MUST bleed it. Maybe he is opening and closing it so fast that a very small air bubble gets in the hydraulic line... and after a day or two that air bubble works its way up and "burbs" itself. That is the only thing I can think is happening.

Still... you SHOULD bleed the clutch after you open the hydraulic line(s).

I was under the car with Pete during the "extraction", and I can 100% assure you, that he didn't bleed my clutch, and I have had zero issues, and that was some 12K kms ago..

Its just his technique and professionalism... He knows exactly what he's doing.
