OP, I don't think it's that easy man. If that's the case, tomorrow morning I'll go to a range rover dealership and get keys to every truck they have. I'm sure thieves have thought of that, but they can't just walk in and get keys

I don't know about any other car brands but I couldn't buy a new key for my old 330i without showing ID and the cars registration. The name on the ID had to match the name on the registration.
The dealer will not sell you a key to a BMW without showing matching ID and registration.

There was a video about this awhile ago. It was pretty cool to see the tech thieves use.

They did this in "gone in 60 seconds" with those 3 Mercedes. That movie came out in 2000.
I'm sure that this has happened, but I'd say it'd be more difficult than just going and getting a new key. |

For what it's worth, You need to show Photo ID by BMW rules before they can make you a new key and they ask you for Photo ID. They won't fulfill the order of a new key until you A.) Fax them a copy of the car holders License or B.) Get them to come in C.) Prove you live with said person by matching your home address or the address they have on record. They also ask you to confirm your monthly payments so they make sure it's you.
This is what I was told as I recently had to get a new key. |

I had an Integra Type R that was stolen right out of my work parking lot. When they found it in a chop shop, the thieves had made a key for my car. (which led into a 3 month investigation of how I somehow tried to steal my own car)
Eventually the insurance company tracked down a company that would get you a key for any car if you gave them a VIN. Jim |

Honestly guys, what you need to look out for are tow trucks.. No one questions a tow truck and in most cases they are smooth enough to grab the wheels and not even trip the alarms. Car = Gone.

Around here you cannot get keys cut if you do not have the orginal ownership & drivers licence. If it is leased they will also want a letter of authorization from the leasing company.A VIN is not good enough to get keys at most dealerships that I know of.

IIRC, a lot of Audis have tilt sensors that set off the alarm if it is armed and the car surpasses a certain angle.

My M3 has that too but keep in mind these guys back up, lift the car and roll away pretty quick so it doesn't really matter if it goes off. I've had my cars towed away at apartments in the time it takes you to walk in and pick someone up.. Total BS but like I said, no one questions it and it doesn't have to be for legal reasons.
