Help with my alarm system.

I have a red lamp under my inside rear view mirror. Does that mean I have the anti-theft system on my m3? It is a 09 E92 M3.
Thanks for your help!

I thought it was standard in Canada. When you lock your car, does it make a beeping sound and does the little red light flash?

Not all the 09's came prewired. I think they stopped it in March.

Nope. By the way, my car was a US car.

If you don't have a beep, then unless you've turned it off in iDrive or your BC menu, it means you don't have an alarm. Unfortunately BMW didn't allow the light to blink even when there's no actual alarm, probably because that would have reduced the number of alarm sales. Strangely though, Minis can be coded to activate their alarm blinker even when they don't have an alarm installed, but that code doesn't work on BMWs.

I don't know how you guys sleep at night without car security. My car has the factory alarm/immobiliser and an additional GSM/GPS based tracking system that is monitored 24/7! You can steal it, but it WILL come back. Quickest return time is 8 minutes, apparently!

Check the build date. I think if it is pre march 2009 then the prewiring should be there. If post March you are sol and need to go aftermarket. Search the DIY forum for factory installs for the alarm. I think one way of telling if prewired is checking behind the right wheel well for the wire for the siren.
