Throttle blip - DCT

Seems like a dumb question I know, but when in the lower drivelogic settings (S1-3 and D1-3), I almost never get throttle blip on downshifts. Is this normal?

I might be mistaken, but I am pretty sure I've gotten it a time or two in S3 under very aggressive braking.

This is quite abnormal, it should be never, not almost never;-)

That sarcastic bit lost its touch when six other people already gave the answer.

It makes it better. By having the DCT rev match for the selected gear, you aren't waiting the seconds for the RPMs to match the speed.

It's awesome watching dct work in drivelogic 4 and 5.

I don't know if you guys get this but I often get the left foot twitch from driving manual for so long. It's like my left twitches and I mentally suppress it from doing anything (like stop on the brakes as if it's the clutch!) but then the car downshifts and rev matches beautifully as if I did it all. It's almost telepathic!

On my DCT test drive I didn't test the lower shift modes, so forgive my ignorance, but what does the car do instead of blipping the throttle in the lower modes? Does it just slowly slip the clutch and cause the car to lurch forward by letting driveline resistance raise the engine RPMs? That would seem to be uncomfortable especially for example on a 3>2 downshift at 5K RPM. It would be especially odd if you downshifted while already on the throttle in order to get more acceleration, you'd not only get delayed power delivery but you'd get a lurch forward first.

Yes. In practice the car doesn't really lurch forward since at low RPM, the gap in engine speed between two gears is not much.

If the RPM is high, and especially if you do a multigear shift, it will match revs like the more aggressive drivelogic modes do.

wrong answer, it makes you less of a man b/c you dont' have 6MT. just turning this thread into a DCT vs 6MT fight again.

You're right, it gives the driver a relatively smoother and quicker downshift while keeping the engine in it's higher power range (due to the linear HP output as RPM increases of the S65 engine)

ive just notice today that I get inconsistent throttlke blip on the drive home from work, regardless of what D or S mode I am in. Anybody know what can cause throttle blip to stop and be intermittent. yes... I know when it should do it and it doesn't anymore

Just takes practice and skill.

Nothing more rewarding than mastering the perfect palm/finger downshift.

Well you really can make the M3 blip in S1-S3. If you are driving in those modes while accelerating, take the foot off the throttle and then immediate downshift, 1, 2, or 3 times you will get the blip.

It's kinda useful if you are in traffic and all of a sudden need an extra push.

So yeah, accelerate, let off the throttle, immediately downshift and you get the blip.

I only drive in S4 or S5 to make sure I get the blip.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is S2 and D2 and drive logic, as fair as I know I thought there was a mode where you can shift yourself and (D) when the car shifts automatically
