Car feels choppy when cold
hi guys,
just wondering if this is normal, my car seems choppy when it is cold, especially when I'm in first gear. Is this normal? Everything seems fine once the car is warm, ie after 2-3 minutes of driving. Thanks |

Just wait till your engine rev is stable before you drive. And it is normal

Yep, the S65 is a little cranky until it warms up a little. Take it easy for the first few minutes. I've come to view it as a charming throwback to the old days when many performance engines would barely stay running until they warmed up. The S65 doesn't stall, but the M3 does buck a little for the first two or three minutes with anything buy very light throttle.

Just imagine how you'd feel after sleeping in the garage all night. Gotta loosen up a bit ...

I would think that any car in BC would be choppy when starting this time of year. You guys have two seasons, Winter and August. And yes, it is normal.

Some people including me live for the cold start, wait until you get an exhaust/x-pipe combo (HFC not Catless) you'll wish it never went away. Just like every car I've owned and will own she needs a 3-4 minute warm up period then she'll be fine. Just make a couple calls, check your e-mails then get going..
But yes, ANOTHER STUPID F*CKING THREAD IF THE DAY. USE YOUR BRAIN. |

Warming up the engine
During the warm-up phase, the high-performance V8 engine runs a little more roughly due to its emissions control system. For technical reasons, the exhaust systems sounds slightly metallic when the engine is cold. This information can be found in your manual on page 121

It runs lean when cold so that the exhaust warms quicker. It helps to get the catalytic converters working sooner. Thank the EPA.
Cheers.

No: "Do not wait for the engine to warm up while the vehicle remains stationary. Start driving right away, but at moderate engine speeds." Page 56 Last edited by OldenburgerM3; 12-05-2011 at 01:51 PM.. Reason: page number |

Yes, normal. And also keep your revs up to at least 2000RPM during normal driving. The M3 was designed to rev. high.
