Anystream Bluetooth in pre 2011.5 M3?

I miss BT audio streaming in my 2011 M3 and stumbled across the Anystream device. It is a little Bluetooth dongle that plugs in to the iPod connector (eg in center console of an M3) and then allows you to stream music through A2DP. Was wondering if anyone had experience with this thing in an m3?

Thanks!

I've been looking for something like this since I have an 08 but haven't found one yet. Hopefully someone else replies.

I'd say just buy it and see if it works.

That's what I'm planning to do but thought I'd take a flyer first to see if someone has already tried it. I'll report back once I have it with results for those interested.

i bought one of those for my old S5... didn't work as for some reason Audi decided to cut the power off to the device if it doesn't sense sound coming from one of the pins on the ipod.

I don't know if i still have that thing laying around, but i'll see if it'll work on M3.

So as promised, I'm reporting back after getting the anystream. Unfortunately, the news is not good. It does not work with the proprietary BMW Y cable (that hooks up to USB and mini stereo) or with a standard (white) Apple USB cable. Very low signal level, lots of static and disconnects constantly. So it appears to be a no go. apparently BMW reverse engineered a very non-standard cable for our early 2011 and earlier M3s.

Boostin FD - any better luck on your end?

I have an '08 and use this Blackberry bluetooth stereo gateway. Plugs into the USB for power, the headphone type jack for the sound. I can wireless stream everything from my phone straight through it to the car audio. I put car in the AUX mode.

Good idea- I actually use one of those in my airplane. It's a workable solution but not quite as good as what anystream was supposed to provide (one cord, track skipping, etc). Oh well, guess the berry gateway covers what matters. Maybe I'll get another one for the M3.

I have one in my 08 G37 which did not come with A2DP, works like a charm. Ironically I paid $20 for it so I bought 2 in the event one should ever stop working. It did require some major searching on the internet to find one though as they are no longer made.

Since I have one of these as well I can tell you the sound quality is very good. No noise or static. I do not know if it can work a dual profile the way the Anytream can (when it works). What I mean by this is that the Anystream is only seen by the iPhone as a music channel and it allows the option to still be connected in parallel to the car for phone use. This may not matter to everyone but I liked this about the Anystream - if it had worked, I could listen to music in my car via BT but if a phone call came it, the car would then switch seamlessly to the phone BT connection. I don't know how the bberry gateway works in this respect since I use it in an airplane which does not have phone BT connectivity.

Also, the bberry is only a passive sound pass through. No skip track, pause or back button thought the steering console. Not really a big deal, but in the interest of full disclosure compared to a full A2DP profile

Sound quality is great. Also as someone else mentioned to change songs you will need to do it from your phone and not through the iDrive.

Very interested to hear if anyone has developed a solution to this problem. Having direct track control would be fantastic, but I'll take great quality sound with no wires streaming from Google music on my galaxy nexus any way I can get it.

Has anyone tried the follow optional adapters for our cars? http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...catalogid=4462

Apparently it gives it more power to the Y-cable wondering if anyone has tried this option?

The current audio Y-cable which is supplied with cars equipped with a USB/Audio interface (SA 6FL) will not charge an iPhone 3G or 4, under many circumstances. As a result, this new charging cable was developed to use in conjunction with the existing audio Y-cable. The charging cable is used in series/inline with the audio Y-cable. (also on special above)

This charging cable is required due to the fact that the USB port only supports charging at a rate lower than many iPhones require.

Note: Some cars produced from 9/2010 will not be equipped with an audio Y-cable. The white Apple cable may be used on these vehicles for connectivity, but this cable will still not charge the device properly. Therefore, the charging cable is applicable to these vehicles as well.

*

Allows charging for Apple iPhone and iTouch models while that device is connected through the vehicles USB/Audio interface.
*

A must when streaming internet music which tends to deplete the iPhone’s battery fairly quickly.
*

Tested and approved for automotive application.
*

Fits conveniently in the center console storage compartment.
