Track Wheels.
Hi guys, I'm looking to track my car sometime in the next 2 months. I'm looking at cheaper track wheels such as Apex Arc-8 wheels. What is the recommended setup for these wheels? I've seen people using the 18x10 or 18x10.5 square setup, and also some with the 18x9.5 front and 18x10 setup. What difference do these sizes make on the track? Sorry if this is a dumb question. Is having a square setup more dangerous for newbie drivers than a staggered setup? Please help. It's gonna be my first time on a track btw.

I suggest you wait until after a couple of track events before investing in extra wheels/tires. The car is more than capable as is, and, track schools might prove to be something you don't pursue on regular basis.
I have a set of the Apex wheels, 18X10, and use 275/35 all around. The E90 series M3 is noticeably more neutral than was the E46, and a square setup is thus not as important. It appeals to me both for the handling balance, and the ability to rotate between all corners. For that reason, I see no practical reason not to use a square setup, assuming you are going to buy extra wheels. The real fix of course, is for BMW to use a suspension setup that allows sufficient adjustability to yield the handling balance desired. The Apex wheel is relatively light, and plenty strong for your intended use, a good wheel. |

I also use the Apex wheels, 18x10 with 275/35/18 tires all around.
If you feel you are ready for a track set, this is a very good combination. You can also go 255/ 275 or up to 295 with these wheels ( 18x10) if needed. For your first time your standard tires should do. It is better to learn with tires that slip a bit at first to understand how it feels and what to do about it at slower speeds. Then work up to sticker tires....

I'll be running Apex ARC 18x9.5 fronts with 265/35 Michelin CUP tires and 18x10.5 rears with 295/30 CUP tires.
And these wheels are very light relative to the VMR wheels I ran last year.
