Coping with being OCD with your M?

Hey guys, is it just me, or have all of you been agonizing over every little nick, scratch, an chip ever since you got your M3? I\'ve always been semi-OCD with my cars, but the M has taken it to a whole new level. For instance, I found a chip on the door the size a pin-head and I\'ve been thinking about it for days now. I also had a tiny scratch on the leather repaired, that most couldn\'t even tell was there. I thought getting a clearbra would help assuage my fears, but no luck.

Am I nuts or is this common behavior with an M? My wife already thinks out of my mind, so feel free to be honest, lol.

I have been OCD with every car i've owned. However Ive learned that the more "anal" (no homo) you are about you car the more shiat goes wrong!! Stracthes, Dings, etc. Wtih my M i give less of a crap and no scratches or spills or anything!!! IT's kinda weird how that happens. With my last car I was WAY OCD over her and she was a 30 thousand dollar AUDI . But in all seriousness other non M owners just simply dont understand

You are normal. The other day my girlfriend told me I like my car more than her. I felt like telling her that it is because not only does the car look pretty, it pleasures me when I ask it to, costs less to maintain and most important, it doesn't speak.

It's ok to want to take care of a big investment that you've made. I don't find anything wrong with it.

There's a reason some cars look beat, and there's a reason some cars look like they just drove off the assembly line.

I know I am, probably spend more on detailing in a year than most people will during 4, I park in the farthest possible spot with no one on either side, I crawl over dips, bumps, and driveways to save my suspension.

Same here

I don't care so much about stuff anymore though. After I went off the track, the rubber that's stuck to the car, the rock chips, etc... I've stopped carrying so much lol

I mean, you're using the car. It's going to happen. Rocks will fly, bumpers will chip, Rocks will break windows. It's just a car. Wanting to keep your car looking good by washing it, I find no problem with that.

The first nick, scratch, chip pisses us off - the ones afterwards don't so much. If the car is driven a lot on the highway the chips happen more often, not to mention the roadrash.

Totally normal. I've had to get over paint chips because they are inevitable while driving 80mph on the highway. But its always clean, always parked far away, I eat in the car sometimes, but don't let others eat or drink in the car. You really have to take care of the car for 2 reasons, you should be good stewards of what you have, 2, if you plan to sell it x amount of years down the road, not a lot of people (who are buying this class of car) are going to want one that hasn't been taking care of. Enjoy the car, and don't fret too much!!

Drive the car and enjoy it, but fix stuff when it gets damaged. Or put it away and take good care of it for the next owner.

I always get a big kick out of this because we are all told by others that we are "absolutely nuts" but on here we're all normal and understand each other habits

OP there is a thread somewhere around here about all the idiosyncrasies we all share. I think its all but 10 pages too lol
