Competition package?

And/or dynamic damper control/EDC?

What's the easiest way to tell - in photos - which cars have it and which don't?

I'm trying to find an M3 to test drive, and sometimes from the description it's not always clear what options the cars have. But there's always the photos

I'm assuming if I'm interested in buying a competition equipped M3 should I choose to go that route, I should test drive one to get the full experience?

359M wheels. Otherwise, it's almost impossible to tell (.5" lower).

Bought my beast without a test drive and have no regrets. Does not appear to be too much different performance wise but the wheels make the car and are well worth the 2 grand.

I also have done a little more research and see there's a button in the middle of the 3 buttons to the left of the shifter for EDC with cars equipped with it?

Correct. Also, all cars that have the factory Comp Package with the 359 wheels will also have EDC as it's part of the package. EDC was also available as a "a la carte" option as well. Then, the only sign is the button on the center console.

Wrong side [UK] but you get the idea.

I think I want to buy a car with EDC, but am just test driving to see how I like the M3 in general first. Should I test drive a car with EDC? Will it make a big difference in my assessment?

The standalone EDC available without the ZCP is not the same EDC. The EDC with the ZCP is dynamic even in sport mode while the stand alone EDC will be a static setting.

For myself, I loved the M359 wheels and this is what sold me on the package along with the .4" lower ride height. In my opinion there isn't a better looking wheel available OEM or aftermarket than the 359 wheels. I know there is different opinions but that is mine.

Someone else can chime in to verify, but ultimately you can also check because the car will have M dynamic mode for the traction control in the M button menu. Is is only available on a competition package car.

Since the ZCP has wider rims but carries the same tires, making
the rims exposed...
what tire size would best fit the 359M?

I am thinking of getting new tires all around once I get mine.

Well obviously the car will have to be 2011+, to this day I haven't seen a car being advertised as ZCP without the rims so pretty much if you see the rims it'll have the package. But then again somebody could have brought a NON-ZCP car and put the 359 rims on, but then again I've never seen this either in a sale, obviously seen it with people that buy the 359's to put on their regular M3's (NO FLAMING JUST SAYING LOL). Maybe it's time to get the measuring tape up, check if it's 10mm lower.

That would be incorrect........ the M dynamic mode and M drive are available on non-ZCP cars also. the difference in the competition package are the wheels, performance tuning of the EDC and lowered suspension.

My order is without the comp. package, but it does have the MDM as standard.....I checked before ordering it.......

Totally agree. Wheels are gorgeous. What is not captured in pics is just how deeply concave they are. For $2500, looking at all you get, it is an absolute bargain as well.

You guys are both partly correct. Of course there is MDM in non-sport package cars. Basically all cars since 2 years ago get MDM. The zcp however has a revised MDM mode only available in the zcp package that allows even more wheel slip and fun/games before cutting in.

So you get a "unique mdm" but to be honest unless you are a total pro on a track you will never tell between regular mdm and zcp mdm

...and to chime in for the convertible constituency, e93s (pre-2012) have MDM and EDC as part of the technology package. We have a unique MDM too on account of our cars going so much slower than the rest of yours, with wild instability roof-up and to counter the 911-effect top-down.

Thanks for the clarification......are you talking about the different state of tune on the sport-plus setting in ZCP cars, or is this another additional feature on the ZCP cars.

anyways, I probably fall into the last group of people that you mentioned ...... not a pro at all, not even close.......... another thing that went into my decision was - I really like the OEM 18 inchers, am one of the rare ones who does not like the 19's that come with ZCP. Plus practicality weighed in. Where I live, the less lowered your car is, the better, really bad roads in my neck of the woods. So things kinda jived in together with my like of the 18's that also gets me more sidewall plus the non lowered suspension that I get with the non-ZCP build....... may not make much of a difference but I am happy.......
