Intake sounds awesome in cold air?
Now that the weather is cold and crisp, the car sounds even meaner. Driving to the office in the AM, I"ll open the sunroof to hear the growl.
Is it me, or does the car growl a bit more when the air is cold?

You are so right but I have no idea why! I know why you make power with more dense oxygen in cold air being sucked in but not sure why it sounds better. Maybe the acoustics of cold dense air is different than hot less dense air?

I'm glad to see that I am not the only one with the window down, sunroof open and heated seats on. I love hearing the sounds of this spectacular car.

I think it is the humidity level that makes the intake sound better. The less moisture and the dryer the air the better the acoustic properties and how it resonates through the intake. My acoustic guitar always sounds better when there is less humidity also.

it's the same with all engine types IMO, I do hear a meaner exhaust note when the weather is cold.

My guess is that it's due to the fact that sound waves travel better in denser fluids. Similar to how sound can travel long distances underwater. When the air is more dense, the transmission of the intake sounds is more efficient and they will dissipate just a little bit less.
