BMW Live - Droid Bionic question

I am interested in the Bimmertech Combox upgrade for my 09 E90. Does anyone know if you can bluetooth tether a Verizon/Moto Droid Bionic.

This is the deal breaker if it can't power internet stuff.

Thanks.

I can't speak for the specific phone, but it seems that BMW seems only worried about iPhone compatibility.

Android didn't have the necessary platform support, but it will be supported in the next version of iDrive.

How nice for those getting the next iDrive.

I concur with the last comment of that article... the "explanation" of Android being a mess so BMW could not offer iDrive support looks to me like "the dog eat my homework" kind of reason.

The whole purpose of an app is to eliminate those apparent incompatibilities. In other words, let BMW dictate how to talk to the iDrive and then the apps companies -not the cell providers- will create the required BMW ConnectedDrive apps for whatever phones they want to support.

The real question is, can the Droid Bionic tether thru Bluetooth with Verizon? If so, how Verizon tethering plan deal with it?

Only Verizon can answer all those questions in detail.

Droid supports bluetooth tethering. I spoke to Verizon. The data plan supports it as it is not considered a hotspot.

I guess I will go to the dealership and see if I can get my phone to tether.

Also, the dealer told me the Blackberry is not supported. I understand that it works???

Ummm... it is considered a hotspot for the Verizon iPhone.

Your dealership will not help you in this matter... BMW Live is not available in the USA.

You can still get the Combox Media from BimmerTech and get it coded for BMW Live and BMW Internet if you are not interested in BMW Assist.

Can you see a Bluetooth tethering selection anywhere in your settings menu? Ay least in my iPhone I cannot see it.

I have a section for USB tethering and Mobile Hotspot settings. Plus Bluetooth scanning for devices above it. So, maybe the phone will detect the car? Aside from the phone voice bluetooth. I mean discovering the data protocal.

Just find a laptop with Bluetooth tethering and test it. If it works then you will be set.

Good news! It tethers. However, only in 3g. I had to disable 4g. Worked with both my ipad and laptop. Maybe it will work with the combox upgrade?

The Combox BMW Live and BMW Online does not care of which phone you use as long as it tethers via Bluetooth.

Technically, I thought there *was* a way for apps to be added to the combox? At least in theory... has anyone actually done it yet?

You are talking about BMW Apps and not about apps: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=590463
