Issue with tire hitting fender and Perfromance Suspension

After installing the BMW PS, the rear tires bump the fender when reloading the suspension when going over some bumps at higher speeds.

So the questions are:

- Is there any way to stiffen the PS in the rear.
- Is it OK to install stiffer shocks in the rear only
- Any other suggestions.

Maybe you got the wrong PE springs? They are VIN specific. I would ask two dealers to double check your part number.

The only other thing is... I have a friend who installed some H&R springs on his e82. He did not like the way the car sat too low in the rear. he installed some rubber spacers between thebottom of the rear spring and its perch. I think they were from the last 6er body. Like a 640d or so.

What wheels are you running>? OE? Any spacers or any other suspension mods?

Information like what wheels you have (size and offset), what tires, alignment spec, etc. Would be very helpful to people.

Running OEM wheels with spec tires. I know the suspension parts numbers are good. Purchased from UnitedBMW and we double checked the numbers prior to installation.

You can do Koni yellows with the PS springs if you want to.

But stupid question did you get an alignment after the install? I only ask because no way youre rubbing unless your alignment is crazy out of spec.

Where is it rubbing? The fender liner? the Fender itself?

Full alignment. Rubbing is right on the edge. Think of it as the corner of the tire.

something is amok for sure. a stock car with performance suspension and oem wheels/tires should definitely not rub (shouldn't even be close). try jacking up the opposite corner of the car (to weight the corner in question) and snap a couple photos of the tire and fender area so we can see how/where it rubs. my guess is it almost has to be rubbing on the fender liner, not he metal fender, but it would have to be very low for that to happen, and PS shouldn't be low enough for that. did you get it used? is it possible a previous owner installed spacers and nobody noticed? are you sure your rear tires are the oem-sized runflats, not a larger size?

Agreed to check the alignment, see how the rear camber is. Normally when a car drops the camber goes negative and you'd hit the strut if anything. Perhaps something else is wonky or an alignment was done incorrectly?

Just to be sure what tire sizes are you running? You said spec, but any chance they aren't?

I'll echo the thoughts here based on first hand experience. With the PS installed, I do not rub even with a +1 tire upgrade (225/255) using tires known to be aggressively wide (Star Specs). It wasn't until I went +2 (235/265) that I got rubbing, and it is very mild at it's worst, occurring at the rear only under pretty good dips (the front rubs too).

Don't just get an alignment, but specify that you want -1 or -1.5 deg in the rear. That will easily get rid of your fender rubbing issues provided your setup doesn't have anything strange about it.

You probably didnt mark the offset bolts with a sharpie before removing them and your alignment has gone to hell. There is no way the PS should rub in any way with stock wheels.

I still wonder why people loosen or remove that bolt for spring and shock installs.
