Considering purchase of 2007 Z4 CPO
Hello, I'm new to the forum and I have a question. I really like the Z4 and want to buy one. I searched BMW's website for certified pre-owned and found one that is CPO in my price range. I have a deposit on it and the salesman faxed over a copy of the certification paperwork and the work order for the maintenance performed.
The paperwork shows that the convertible top motor was replaced and the tech noted that water was found in the housing for the power top's motor. I know that the previous owner drove the car recently in the winter. Just wondering what you all thought. Is the fact that the top's motor was replaced a red flag? Is it odd that the tech noted that water was found in the housing for power top's motor? thanks, SR |

It's an indicator that the drains weren't properly cleaned which is probably why the motor went bad (motor was immersed in water instead of the water draining). Check out the DIY section, but if the dealer replaced the motor that's good.
I'd also check the carfax. Carfaxs aren't the best, but the do a descent job or reporting insurance related activity (salvage, accidents, etc). Lastly have them put the car up on a lift and closely inspect the bottom. Look for accident damage, leaks, etc. Hope it works out and you join the family! |
