Black extended leather is pointless
Sometimes, when you're in the market for a used M, and you're in a hurry to feed the M addiction, you have to take what you can get.
In my case, I got a car that has black extended leather, among all the other options I was actually looking for. I began to ponder why someone would even bother up-charging for black extended when there is really no visual difference - which to me, is one of the main attractions of the extended leather. Why didn't the first owner of this car get red or gray? If he wanted black, why pay extra? Is there really any difference when you have the black interior? When I plan on selling this car, will a prospective buyer believe me? If I posted about this, would anyone stick up for black extended with any substantive merit??? These are the questions that keep me up at night! I guess I'm just one of those guys that would feel stupid paying for a $300 burberry sweater, without it saying burberry somewhere on the outside. Would love to hear your thoughts on this. |

No doubt it is a little pointless being all black but I think that the leather hides look and feel nicer than textured plastic on the lower dash and centre console!
Congrats on the new car!!! |

I ordered extended black and wouldn't consider ordering extended in any other color. Just my opinion but the other colors break up the flow of the dash in a way i don't like. Additionally I'd like to reduce as many exposed plastic pieces as possible.
That's why there are options ... no one is forcing it on you.

Like Joe, it's not the color, it's the appearance of the surface. The extended leather just looks a lot nicer than the plastic it replaces.

I didn't know that. I guess I'd have to see them both to be able to tell. Definitely not complaining. It was a nice surprise to see. just curious what people thought about it. If I was ballin and was gonna buy a new one, I would get the grey extended. so sick....

I like the extended looks and feels nice in black or red. When I was ordering though I didnt like it. Now after two years, I wished i had ordered it.

Enjoy the car! Ultimately it's the way they drive and not the interior kit that matters...

Buying used car with extended black leather is bonus as long as the leather is in good shape. You wont be paying for it and it probably doesn't merit a market adjustment.

I like it on the console but don not like how the faces of the cup holders breaks it up and looks ultra-plastic in contrast to the leather around it. I have BB and looked into geting black leather for the console and it was like $3k with instilation!!!

Extended leather feels great, removes more plastic/vinyl from the car and give it a very nice look and feel. OP, to you it might be pointless, like Joe said, no one is forcing it on you. The fact that you wouldn't pay $300 for a sweater that doesn't have a big label alerting the world to how much you paid makes you sound like an absolute moron. Sorry.

My Z4MC had black extended. It is worthwhile. It's impressive to see the amount of leather that isn't in other vehicles. I probably wouldn't pay for it new, but I was appreciative of it as I bought my car used. My E90 doesn't have it, and I'm not torn up about it. I have Fox Red and I think extended looks too extreme so I'd argue that black might be the best color for extended.

I used to be one of the people that felt extended was useless in any color. After seeing Fox Red extended in person, it was quickly put on the top of my option list. It's hard to explain, but leather just adds a level of luxury feel to the interior that plastic parts just can't do. The look, feel and smell of leather no matter what the color is a welcomed addition to any interior IMO.

But to get that I wouldn't have been looking at at least Individual ($3900, plus Individual interior, another $4000).

As to extended, I appreciate that it's there, just wish it was FOX RED. so sick. Portland Brown extended would also be a nice option. Last edited by Seattle S65B40; 02-08-2011 at 12:45 AM.. |

i wouldn't get extended. it adds unnecessary weight to the car.

Most cars have the 'extended' option on TOP of the dash and doors, not the bottom. I definitely like my black extended, but would have liked it a lot better on top of the dash, which is way more visible than the bottom. And contrast stitching makes it even better .
