Am I pissed off for no reason?

Ok so after 2.5 months of waiting I finally picked up my 2011 M3. I inspected the car and everything was great until I looked behind the rear wheels. The car had 9 miles on it when I picked it up. I found a small gauge on one side about the size of a pencil tip, and a small chip on the other side on the wheel well edge. It looks like both sides took a hit from small rocks. should I be pissed because its eating at me? It is at the shop to get clear bra put on it right now (whole car). Both chips are hard to see unless your right up on it. Sorry I would have taken pic's but I went straight to the clear bra shop after picking it up. The areas that are chipped will be clear bra'ed as well. I talked to my sales rep about it but said the only option is repaint. What would you guy's do? I just expect it to be perfect when you pay this much for a car.

I would not be worried. You'll inflict more rock chips during one road trip than you will care to imagine.

I wouldn't repaint. I would however get the whole car clay barred and light polished/wax before putting a clear bra on it.

I would but its at the shop getting the clear bra put on. Im doing the whole car because thats how anal I am LOL. It just drives me nuts that I am paying for that and there will still be a couple chips. The size of them are small both no larger than the head of a pencil. One is a very small gauge from a rock, the other is round where a rock hit the lip behind the tire. Both are on the lower portion of the rear bumper behind the wheel, the last 2 inches of the wheel well. The standard place we get chips on this car my 2008 was riddled with them at that spot.

You shouldn't do that to new paint. There's nothing for the clay to remove at this point, and the paint needs at least 6 months before polishing. Shouldn't be any swirl marks to remove either at this point.

You live in Vegas. You're going to get chips. Especially the windshield.

I rarely see E9X M3s in Vegas. I saw 3 today. 2 E93s and 1 E92.

I gauge that small, how do read it? What's it for? Water temp? Boost gauge? Mach meter?

Yea, you're being pissed off for no reason. Relax. There are bigger things to be concerned about. After all, it's only a car. This won't be the last blemish on it, no matter how hard you try. So, don't worry about. Drive it. Enjoy it.

Cheers.

Thx for the reply's, makes me feel a little better. As far as yellowing I have had clear bra's for years and never had it yellow. I have always had gray or silver cars though.

I beg to differ. Have you clayed a new car? It has tons of rail dust on the paint as well as other particles from transport.

Paint doesnt need 6 months to fully cure these days either, 30 days max from the factory. I also said to use light polish as more of a cleanser. Not to remove swirls.

To each their own of course.

My issue was not as much in regards to future rock chips, but with the fact that it had 9 miles on it, and was delivered with the chips already in the paint, which I found when I checked the car out before signing the paperwork.

9 miles is nothing! They could do that just moving the car around the lot. They probably had to drive it down to the gas station to fill it up. You did get a full tank on delivery, didn't you? If you didn't, now that would be grounds to be pissed.

Chips shouldn't have been on it, but, I wouldn't have worried about it. I would have made them take a hundred or two off the price though.

Cheers.

Always clay a new car. I have never known a dealer to do this at prep and it will need it. Then you can do paint correction (if needed) right after -- not 6 months after. It probably will need paint correction since I have never known a dealer to prep a car without adding swirls and scratches. Man, I hang out with all the wrong dealers.

Cheers.

I told my dealer to not detail, and not wash. They were so surprised they had to ask me couple times via email and over the phone if I'm sure I don't want wash/detail.

That's why I'm pissed at the dealer I went to with my E46 M3. I didn't buy the E92 M3 there because of that. I would tell them every time I brought the car in for service not to wash it. And every time they would.

I'm not so anal about it being washed or not now. But I still want the dealer to respect my wishes.

Cheers.

I totally know the feeling. I now have a bright orange, laminated "NO WASH" sign that I tape to the inside of my windshield every time my car goes in for service. My SA laughs and gives me a hard time but it works!!

In the end there is no perfect. Your car will be as new as it gets when you first get it and then it will take on wear.

I much rather use my car than to worship it. If you are too nutz about perfect, then you will never really enjoy your car since you will be concerned about anything that happens to it.

I took my F430 out today and got it good and dirty and even parked it at Walmart and I could care less. I will clean it tomorrow.

The joy of just being able to drive it as a car and not as valuable art is priceless. It is after all a car, right????

Also clear bra on the whole car is nutz (to me) it will never look as good as well polished paint.

Who are you preserving the car for. You can do what makes you happy, but in the end it is just a car.....a nice car....but just a car.

Enjoy the piss out of it ......Steve

Wow, I am shocked at the sense of reality in this thread!

The typical entitlement response of late would have instructed you to refuse the car, demand a new one at a significant discount, with a M3 loaner until it arrives.

You would then be advised to sue BMW AG, BMW NA, the dealer, and the transport company for the emotional distress and lost wages/time, finally demanding that the SA sacrifice one of his children in penance.

Sh*t happens. It sounds minor, so ask for a keychain or something.

I agree. It's a freaking car. I take reasonable precautions to try to avoid damage, but it gets driven on public roads with the associated hazards.

I drive my M3 every day in every sort of weather. It has survived.
