What will you do when you received a loaner with worn out tires?
Guys:
I received a loaner 328i from my dealership yesterday when I brought my car in to replace the passenger door panel (due to squeaking sound). When I sat in, I swear it's the stinkiest loaner I have driven, plus the gas is way below 1/4 tank. Anyway, as i cruised away the dealership to work, I felt something not right, but I couldnt really tell what went wrong...i just couldn't control the car well, and I said to myself, "BMW has gone backwards over the years? This car drives so much mire poorly than my gf's 325i. When I went home last night I started to notice that the car wouldn't drive straight itself sometimes, and I was like, dang this car needs an alignment! Until this morning when I drove the loaner to work, I noticed the steering wheel even moved by itself when the car was in motion. Until then did I realize that the loaner lacked of traction. When I checked the tires, i was surprised that the tires, especially the rear tires, were almost gone. I am talking about 0.2-0.3 cm, or 0.1 inch tread kind of tire wear... I almost lost control and got into accident during a turn when the steering lost traction!!! I have called my SA that I'll be picking up my car tomorrow morning... ,meanwhile, do you think the dealership should do something about putting me in danger? I mean, if I were not as cautious and drove the loaner half the way as I drove my M, or if I went over some water pond or it rained, or I got a flat tire, etc? All above could easily got me into an accident! My gf told me to ask the dealership to drop my M3 at my residence and pick up the loaner but I don't think the car is that undrivable. It's just the chances getting into an accident just getting a lot higher with such severe tire wear. I think I'll be ok if I put both hands on the wheel at all time and maintain 40-50mph speed limit and minimize road change and reduce speed at turn and don't drive over wet surface, I'll be fine.... What would you do? Should I ask the dealership for compensation? Or since loaner is complimentary, I should just eat it up since nothing bad happened? Thanks! |

Compensation for what? You didn't get injured or anything. Sounds to me like you're wanting something for a what-if scenario. Be a man and drive the loaner to the service center, point out the dangerous treadwear and then pick up your ride and be happy.

i would call the dealership and let them know the tires are basically done and it is very dangerous to drive.. its not worth risking getting into an accident and asked to compensate for the damages.. because after an accident bmw can just say the tires werent like that when you took it out.. ohh and if the tire dies on you.. you are responsible for covering for that tire.. which would mean you would have to pay for a new tire.. i just dont see any reason to risk it by driving it over there very cautiously... in the end its your call..

I would talk to the manager at the dealer and explain your situation. No need to fight with them but tell them that if you receive another loaner car that's in this condition you will contact BMW NA because it's a risk to peoples lives and you wouldn't want to put BMW NA and their dealer in any risk.
The dealers always take "suggestions" better than arguments or threats.. In the mean time don't let the dealer drive your car all the way to your house it's just a risk and after all it's your baby - right?

Just point it out upon return and be done with it. Your scenarios are a whole bunch of what if's... IF something were to happen, then MAYBE you would be entitled to some compensation. But as I said, just quickly mention something and pick up your ///M and be happy. If you make a big deal about it, especially since nothing bad happened, you might be on the short end of the stick next time you come in. They might be conveniently "out of loaners" and put you in a sh*t box Enterprise rental car, or give you nothing at all.

I would take the SA out when you get there to show him the tires of the loaner and tell him about how unsafe it felt, not to get a compensation but to make sure they know about it so they may change them before they loan it to someone else (and if that doesn't satisfy you, you may add " I won't cause you trouble about that but next customer may")

Alright im not gunna be a jerk... But we also had a bad encounter with a loaner... The car was showing flat tire... So i took it back and they claimed to fix it so i left... I get a mile down the road and on it comes again... I drive back and they give me another loaner... While i was pissed i didnt fight much about it... To top it off the car i took in was having many problems that to this day havent been fixed(note not my M3). So op dont get mad people really abuse loaner cars and the dealership can sometimes slack up on maintaining them

The last loaner I got had a slow leak in one tire and it drove badly then lit up the TPM warning. I put air in it and took it back. I even marked the location of the nail in it for them and told them about it. Done. This is not hard. They have a ton vehicles in their fleet, sometimes they don't get a chance to give every one a good once-over before they got back out, and maybe the last "12 year old" customer that had it decided to do burnouts for fun. You should never assume a rental or loaner is going to drive well since you don't know what's been done to it. |

WTH? Just take it easy, get it back and give them the courtesy of a heads-up on the wear.

There can't be more than a few hundred miles on the loaner. Odds are, someone ripped off the new run-flats by switching them out while on loan. Perhaps it was motosan.

Next time someone takes you out for dinner and you don't like the food, send it back and ask for a refund...

Just had my X6 in for service and the dealer gave me a leftover 7 they had with 90 miles on the clock.
As said before the tires are at the end of their life go have some fun with it, clearly someone else was

Nothing happened and I'm glad it didn't. Just mention it to them and have them fix it. BMW really doesn't have to provide a loaner but they did so in a way you've already been compensated!
