Rear foglight E92 M3

New here, anyone know where to get euro headlight switch with rear fog light button? If anyone has installed one,is it bright enough to use as back up light?

Would one from my 335i work?

or that old trick of making the button activated?

basically wondering if the new LCIs have it..

The old trick of activating the button works just fine on the LCIs. Mine is a 2011.5 (October build) and I was able to just file down the "stoppers" on the light switch. Pretty easy to do, and saved me the $100 from not having to buy a new assembly.

Can you guys tell me what you mean by the old trick of filing the stop buttons. Is that to turn the rear fogs on? Then are they on full time? The ones turner motorsports offer have the front fogs button too

The pictures are helpful, my switch has the silver on the knob I think the one in your pic looks better in plain black with the carbon leather trim. Where did you get switch?

The stock switch in US spec M3s has the full mechanism for the button (to enable rear fogs) but it is disabled with 3 plastic tabs. These tabs prevent the button from going down and activating the fogs.

The switch Turner sells does have the front fogs as well, but hitting the switch would not do anything (as M3s don't have front fogs.)

Here is a thread showing how to file down (or just break off) the plastic pieces that keep the switch disabled:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...light=rear+fog

It took me like half an hour to do (just needs some patience), but it's super easy and you can't really mess it up.

Edit: Now that I've actually looked at that thread, I see that it doesn't show you how to enable the button. When you take the lighting assembly out, it's perfectly safe to completely disassemble it. It's only like 3-4 pieces held together with loose plastic tabs. You can pry them open pretty easily. Once the switch is disassembled, you'll see that the bottom button (for the fogs) has three tabs that interfere with it being pushed in. Use a jewelers screwdriver or some small needle nose pliers to just snap those tabs off, and you'll be good to go.

I checked out the links, thanks. I'm not sure but it sounds like I won't have to make the custom little white piece shown, because my car is new /2011. Is it the top or bottom button?

Rear fogs work, it only took about 15 minutes. My car had the plastic pieces, so no legos needed, button clicks on/off. Thanks for all the help the pictures made it to easy, just have to wait until it gets dark to see the full effect.

Yeah it's as easy as that if you have the little white plastic piece in the switch. Just use the links above the pics are very clear on what to do. The dash/vent piece pulls out with a little effort just work it out evenly. Then put your hand behind the switch and work it out. Then take it apart as shown in pics. Just be gentle on all the plastic tabs holding the switch housing and button in place. The button pushes out when the black tabs holding the white piece are released.

You don't break off the tabs. It's held in via a very light amount of friction. You literally just pull it out.

I did this a while back. Took pictures and linked the DIY for the install.

You'll notice the orange rear fog indicator in the center display:
