ED one week from today!
Hey guys,
Leaving for Munich on Saturday and taking delivery on Jan 31st. Have not booked any hotels (but plan to by tomorrow) although I have done a decent amount of research. Just wanted to gather some recent suggestions of things to see in Munich, recommended breweries, restaurants, hotels etc... We are only in Munich for 2.5 days before we fly out to London and Amsterdam. Would have loved to spend time driving, but when we booked it didn't seem like a logical choice due to the weather conditions at the time. I am extremely excited and will post pics once I return. Thanks! |

Regarding hotels, I stayed in Motel One west of the city center during my european delivery back in July last year. The Motel One is boutique-like chain of hotels, decent prices and clean. Hope you have a great time.

You are going to love it! I stayed at the Munich City Hilton, took the S8 from the Airport to directly under the Hotel... Then the SX to the U3 and BMW Welt!!! Good luck!

Thanks for everyones input. I just spoke with the travel firm that BMW recommends. They seem fairly knowledgeable. Ill see what they come up with, as well, being that were staying in London and Amsterdam. Its always nice to have all of your travel information easily prioritized.
Following our stay ill do a short write up of the hotels, as well should anyone be interested. |

Yes, I spoke with Greg at CourtYard and then he passed me on to a lady by the name of Cookie. She is calling me tomorrow with suggestions. They do charge a $50.00 fee for providing research and travel arrangements as an fyi for anyone looking to take advantage of the service. I usually make all the arrangements myself, but this time I'm under the gun as far as timing goes.

I like the basic NH hotels across Europe for short, non-experience stays. Clean and decent. Not too expensive. Last time, I stayed right in the Marienplatz. THAT was sweet. Can't remember the name, but they are all cool.

2 days until Munich! I am going to have about 3 to 4 hours of actual driving time with my M3 in between delivery and drop. Assuming the weather conditions hold out Can anyone recommend a great drive that would provide me with the excitement of autobahn driving but also encompass some quite back roads with some nice scenery where I can get some pictures?
Thanks for your help! |

you are getting snow tires right? if not, i don't recommend trying anything on autobahn in 25F weather. black ice is nasty stuff.
i'm actually up near amsterdam on private track day next wednesday. warm enough up there and no snow.

Karussel I appreciate your guidance I will definitely take that into consideration. Seems like the autobahn would not be the right route for me. Do you happen to know any scenic country like roads that are relatively close where I could take some nice pictures?
We will be flying into Amsterdam as well next Thursday. |

If you are on snow tires, there are some roads near by munich that would be scenic. there will be salt all over the roads, but the forecast is currently sunny. of course it was forecast to be sunny today and we got more snow throughout the day. I wish you a safe trip! please consider the winter tires. you would be able to go just about anywhere with them safely.

im picking up next friday!got a great deal at the rennaissance in the north downtown for 65 us a night through priceline after getting the info on the forum.
Im in the same situation as i am also staying in munich only for the weekend and have decided to pay the 60 euro and let the factory do the dropoff unless it is perfectly clear and dry . If it is dry i would like to drive to the neuschwanstein(sp?) castle . does anyone know whether this would be better to drive or just take a train? |

Great recommendations. I will most definitely leave the car at the Welt and have them transport it. Never worth compromising anyone safety. Maybe Ill take an indoor lap...lol. I will be sure to do a ED in the Spring.summer months next time around. Thanks to everyone. FYI- Didn't have a great experience with the Travel company BMW recommended so I will have to book hotels on my own this evening. Nothing like waiting to the last minute!

It had nothing to do with the hotels. Everything they tried to set me up with was nice. What I didn't care for was they did not listen to what I requested of them. I started off by telling them that I wanted to stay in a nice clean hotel, but didn't want to spend almost 200 Euros plus per night. The next day I get an email with hotels that were 175-200 Euros plus for Munich and then 250 pounds plus for our stay in London per night. I then request hotels that were slightly cheaper. They were very nice and said of course we will send them over shortly. Long story short I never heard from them again and they did not respond to my return calls. Not what I would expect from a BMW referral. Not a problem though I will book the hotels myself this evening and i'm sure will save a lot of money this way.
I have never used Priceline.com, but it seems as though there are great deals to be had. I went on the site and when I typed Munich it asked city center north or south? Does anyone know which is closer to the WELT and some of the sightseeing? Thanks! |

Good advice on winter tires. You could run afoul with the law in Germany if on summer tires. They used to be very strick about requiring winter tires.
Otherwise, good luck and have fun. vz
