New Windshield is Green?
Hey all - new here.
I just picked my 2008 M3 up from the dealer after having them replace the windshield, and to my surprise the band at the top is now a light blue/green. The previously windshield (while cracked) had a dark grey band that appeared black from the outside. This new one looks green inside and out. I called the dealer their answer was "all the replacements are that way" which I find hard to believe. I read in past years the green was a 'comfort shield' option or something, but I just find it very ugly compared to the gray/black of the previous windshield. Anyone have any ideas? Did they install the wrong windshield, is there an option they missed? Last edited by Draper; 01-19-2011 at 07:13 AM.. |

It's a Pilkington windshield, however they talked me into a less expensive option which they said the only difference being the lack of a BMW logo. I asked them repeatedly if there was ANY difference, and they said no.
When I spoke to them on the phone today after the install about the green bar they said both the BMW branded and non-branded Pilkington windshields had green bars instead of grey. Is there any truth to this statement? This is a large reputable dealer, so I don't have any reason not to believe them, but I can't imagine them not being able to get the same windshield that came on the car. Are there different OEM part numbers for the grey vs green windshield?

So I got ahold of someone at the dealer who knows what they're talking about.
Apparently the OEM windshields have the gray bar, while the current batch of non-OEM Pilkingtons do not. Quite the pain, but they're swapping out the windshield for the OEM version tomorrow and I'll just have to pay the difference in price.

Basically this is what got installed. http://www.bmw.com/com/en/insights/t...indscreen.html
I didn't want to be too big a dick about it as I'm sure many others wouldn't notice (or care) but after the initial phone call they were very easy to work with. Schomp BMW in Highlands Ranch (south Denver) if anyone's keeping score.

Just got back from the dealer. New OEM windshield is installed, and looks perfect.
No more green stripe!

Nice to hear Schomp took care of you. Haven't been overly impressed with their service in the past.
