DCT drivers chime in

Drove in D1/D2 today for 10 minutes, wanted to see what that mode was all about. Not bad BUT there's a nasty "tug" from standstill - acceleration.

Anyone get a "tug" from a 2nd gear - onward start??

Might have to take her in to the dealer... Don't get it...

Start from 2nd should be smooth... 1st is smooth...

I'm not sure what you mean by "tug" exactly.

D2 mode should be smooth, D1 is what I call the "snow mode" hence starts at 2nd gear. I wouldn't drive it in D1 mode unless you are stuck in the snow or something.

I would define this "tug" more like a jerk I guess. The car moves (gear engages) about 1/2 second after I depress the accelerator. Not smooth, feels like the accelerator press -> gear engaging is jerky and delayed. Strange.

If you're local enough in SoCal, I'd be more than happy to drive it for you, and then you drive mine, and we can see if it really is an issue

there are plenty of us local

I have a DCT and I don't feel a tug anywhere. I do run the latest DCT software though, it was actually updated before the car came into my possession (08 CPO).

I think if you do something like throw it from reverse into first and nail the gas, it might do that. But not from a standstill like you have described. I can start in 2nd in D2 just fine, and have several times.

To me, this sounds like the DCT bug, but with as many posts as you have I'd think you'd be aware of that one?

So I tried D1 and D2 and thought both were smooth. In the past though, I've gotten a bit of jerk off the line in S5.

One thing I noticed about D1/D2 is that with leisurely driving, gear changes occurred around 4-4.5K. It even held a lower gear for while after accelerating a bit. Would have expected for gear changes to happen a bit sooner in this mode.

I have the latest DCT software, my car is a June/July 2010 build and the DCT software was updated in October.

I'm bringing her in, not normal to get a tug like that from 2nd gear from a stop.

Start from 1st is smooth, but there's a lag between the time the accelerator is depressed -> gear engaged -> movement in 2nd (regardless of mode).

Will update soon...

D1 w/ power button off gives a smooth 2nd gear start and barely noticeable gear changes here. My wife has a MB R350 with the 7-speed G-Tronic gearbox and I think my M3 does smoother gear changes with those settings then her car in comfort mode.
