2011 M3 faster than 08 to 10 M3??
I pulled this off of Wiki. First I have heard of this. Any validity to this?
"by CarandDriver magazine has shown that the 2011 M3 equipped with an M-DCT transmission accelerated from 0-60*mph in 3.9 seconds and went on to record a 12.4 second quarter mile time.[25] This is almost half a second quicker than 2008-'10 M3 models with the same engine and transmission, leading to speculation that 2011 M3 models may have been quietly refined to help maintain their lead over offerings from Audi (RS-5), Cadillac (CTS-V), Lexus (IS-F), and Mercedes-Benz (C63 AMG)." |

Simple enough to look at chassis dynos between 08-10s and 11s, if there was a jump I would think some of the tuners would have mentioned it by now.

You know that people can anonymously just change articles or facts that are posted on Wikipedia right?
Besides that, they could also create an article of their own without any sources to show or prove... I can just create an article there mentioning that the 2011 M3 dyno's at 400 HP. |

Going from 4.5 to 3.9 is alot of extra HP. "Quietly refined" wouldn't be a good description of that jump if true. |

To be honest, I don't trust Wikipedia. Even though some articles there are real/legit, they tend to become unconvincing or even seem to be be fake due to A LOT of BS being posted there. wchow16 - No beef against you or anything, I just don't trust Wikipedia due to it's users being able to tamper with posted articles... I saw another article that stated the '11 ZCP gets 0-60 in 4.0 seconds. I'll have to dig it up from the coffee table.

transmission....
This is not necessarily a model year thing, is it? My understanding is that it is a 6MT vs. DCT thing?
Going back to the my '03 SMG...the claim was that a manual transmission is actuated by the driver - drivers are inherently slower than a computer, as well as susceptible to error. ...They never met a Microsoft product did they - I know

OK, now that C&D turns out to be the article I was referring to, is the 3.9 a legit number or did they have a ringer? Did BMW make the 11's hotter?
It would be nice if some people could run the cars. I plan to meet with a group of Houston forum members tomorrow night. Maybe some 11's will be there and we can set something up. |

The '11s that I've seen on the dyno are making about the same power. Differing times are most likely attributed to differing octane levels, better or worse DA, road condition, etc.

It would take an absolutely perfect launch (using LC), perfect weather conditions, road conditions, tires at the right temps, etc. to get a 0-60 in 3.9 seconds.
4.1 is more real-world like. The ZCP E92 2011 is probably 0.1 - 0.2 seconds faster around a track due to the remapped computer, lowered ride height, wider beef in the rear. As far as I know, the E92 M3 2008-2011 is identical in all areas (aside from the ZCP added for 2011). Let's also keep in mind that there have been NUMEROUS DCT updates throughout the years, which could account for a .1 or .2 here in there in launching this car, but this is strictly speculation.
