staggered tires and tire width

I was hoping for an answer on whether or not staggered tires would affect my x6's handling in the snow? I will have extremely wide all season tires. Will the width (315+ width) affect my handling in the snow as well?

Generally the wider the tire, the worse it performs in snow. I've got the 275/315 setup on 20" wheels for summer, but I will go down to 255 on 18" wheels for winter.

I started off with staggered set of 275 / 315 but after my 1st day on the snow I changed to 275/40/20 all around. My Scorpions have only about 600 miles on them and look just like new. They are on sale on the FS section of this forum. Let me know if you are interested. I dont need them as I sold my X6.
