I'm in the same boat. I want to get rid of my 335i but can't think of any other good alternatives.
Thinking I might pick up an original E30 M3 or a E36 M3 and boost it. Not sure how much sense that makes to have as a daily driver though. |

Since your location is Azkaban, a flying broomstick will suit you just fine.
I would go with the M3 or the Z4. I've always wanted a Z4 but didn't buy it for reasons I don't care to list here. |

I'm a bit biased, but combine your first two choices... Z4M

maybe a used STI/wrx?
I drove a 08 the other day... interior and whatnot sucked... and it's not a german car... but that car drove beautifully Loved the clutch and the short shifter that was in it and the turbos sounded beautiful

Do what I did... and get an E46 M3 but don't do what I did... and not wait long enough to find a ZCP

Probably the R32 for practicality and if you want AWD. You could also check out an A3 3.2, though maybe doesn't look as cool. Z4 for a small, impractical but fun car. The E46 M3 would be fun, but there are a lot of scheduled maintenance costs associated with the engine if you can't do it yourself (much more so that the standing i6 engines like would be in the Z4 3.0, or so I hear).

We just went from an R32 to a Z4. Don't do the R32. You will be very disappointed in the perfromance and fuel economy.

I'm in college and i would just like to lose my car payment, so unfortunately that means giving up my pride and joy. ha
I really need to get some seat time in a Z4. I know its not gonna be anywhere near as powerful, but hopefully it will still be fun. how do you guys feel about a C230 Kompressor? |

Guys, he isn't going to find an E46 M3 for $17k with low miles... it's just not happening.
Plus you have to factor in all the repairs and upkeep on an M car is not exactly cheap. |

I don't know if you can pick up an e46 m3 with low miles for 17k. Most in that price range have 70k+ miles on them...

Well I picked up an '03 with 55K miles for $18K, which isn't too far off his mark and I definitely wouldn't say that's a lot of miles. Running strong with no issues and would do it all over again without a doubt.

Agreed. I was just recently in this position and opted for a G35 coupe. Would've loved and E46 M3, but I just couldn't find anything decent for under $20k.

There are many Z4 3.0i going for under $17k with low miles. Most people buy them for weekend cars. The maintenance costs will be nowhere near an M3.
