Angry Got ticket :( and questions

it was 45mph 2 lane road, on the curve, the cop is driving the opposite direction... the cop pulled over and make u turn and stop me... he told me i was doing 71mph... i am not sure how fast i am running really... because when i see th cop i quickly slowed down. i am thinking i am running around 60s but not 71mph.. now here are some questions..

can cops get your speed with their radar when the target is moving from the opposite direction??? this is the second time i got the same ticket in the last 3 years. now i am thinking getting good radar detector

Thanks

Granted most detectors can be off by as much as 5 mph. So lets say you could have been doing 66 mph according to your speedo.

If your absolutely sure that you weren't speeding then thats when you should have tried reasoning with the cop.

But if he got you on radar he got you on radar.

Also as far as detectors go, Valentine 1 or bust.

Always ask to see the radar gun. If he can't show you the gun he can't give you a ticket, that's the law. You can protest the ticket in court especially since it was on a turn, you can state that your perceived speed was due to the "doppler effect" (look it up). Good luck.

a cops radar can get you from their front and back just has to be a straight line. they can't get you on a curve. Just went on a ride along last night and found this out haha. now if they are out of their car and are using the hand radar your done on any angle haha.

It's not the law. At least not any state I know of. That is an urban legend, and demanding to see it will not go well for you. You CAN protest the ticket in court if you feel like taking the time off work to go. IF he was using moving radar and had it on the wrong setting you might have had an inaccurate reading but that does not seem likely based on what you said.

This is true and if a reading is captured, angle shots are SLOWER than your actual speed and therefore inaccurate. The reading also depends entirely on the angle with which you were caught.

The doppler shift is how you measure speed with a radar ...
This doesn't make sense.

Well there isn't anything that he could do regardless. Where you in Peachtree City?

You just have to pay it if so.

I think in this case doppler shift refers to how you can increase the speed reading of a radar or laser gun by sliding the point of aim towards the front of the car from the rear.

I've seen some pretty good examples of how this can change a speed reading from legal to speeding - it's also known as the slip effect.

reference: http://www.bbc.co.uk/insideout/south...-cameras.shtml

Don't think your going to have any luck using this explanation in a court - I've always ended up just paying the fine ;-)

Cops are trained to guestimate the speed of cars so it'd be your words against his. If you really weren't speeding the you can contest it.

I don't know about GA but in CA if you do your homework and contest the ticket, there's a fair chance that it'll get dismissed. I have had 3 cases (one mine, 2 my friends) dismissed in the past year. That is 3 out of 3.

Whats you defense story going to be? If he clocked you at what 16 mph over, then there isn't a lot of wiggle room there.

Definitely get the V1. I got it and saved me so many times so far. I was even in a situation much like yours and it saved my ass BIG TIME. (or course I ran away from the cops, but point being it still helped)

I swear by my V1

Like Alex Roy says, the V1 is the only radar detector that actually works.

My Dad, brother, and I all bought the top 3 detectors.

My dad got the 9500i gps one
I got the Beltronics RX65 Pro
My brother got the V1

We all would borrow his V1 until we finally got our own

The V1 owns! hard wire it and get the display on top of the steering wheel cover
