Suggestion for squeaks
There's a squeak and rattling sound coming from my dash board when the car is driven on cold mornings. Sounds like plastic pieces near the driver's side are rubbing together. The cold temperature must have caused pieces to shrink and not fit well. The sounds disappear after about 10 minutes or so of driving=once the interior warmed up. what’s the best way to convince the dealer that this is happening since the sounds will be gone by the time I get to the them? I don’t want to leave the car over night at the dealer.

I have the same issue. I doubt the dealer is going to take the care in to hunt down some squeaks unless you have a misaligned roof panel or something major.

Talking from experience here, you'd be wasting your time man. Techs are not trained to chase rattles, plus you don't want your car taken apart to find one, as it's just going to make it worse.
Yes, I'm a bit disappointed on the amnount of rattles on this car, but I'll try to find them myself when they bother me enough. I just learned to adjust my expectations, and now that I'm older and wiser (but still a perfectionist ), I don't let them bother me anymore. By the way, last time I let a Lexus dealer find a rattle on my SC430, I found scratches all over the place, and after confronting the SA and SM, they obviously were there before . And car made more noises than before as well. Talk about adding insult to injury. Lost the love for the car after that. Now I find much more fulfilling finding them and fixing them myself when they become constant, and easier to find. Good luck. |

Are squeaks and rattles common on the M3. My 335 is silent except for when the rear seat belt receptacles aren't pushed in they make a noise. I'm considering an m3 but since the car doesn't seem to ride any more harshly than my 335 I would be surprised if rattles/squeaks were more common?
