Night Mode in Nav

Is there a setting you can choose to have the nav screen automaticly switch to night mode when the headlights come on?

I just have a soft key assigned to that functionality. Saves me the trouble of digging through iDrive menus.

Unfortunately, it does not automatically switch over to night mode, nor can you set it to do so. I do the same thing - set soft key #6 to change NAV to night mode.
It's a minor annoyance (sort of like why the rear sun blind doesn't retract automatically when you put the car in reverse - Lexus does both of these things automatically - it's a nice touch) - not a deal breaker, by any means, but you'd think it's just a software things, and easily remedied....

My main nav map never switches to night mode, only the off ramp map that appears on the right side of my IDrive screen. I have an 09.

Anyone with similar issues or know how to fix this?

Are you kidding? The M3 has a laundry list of creature comforts that I wish I could gut in exchange for some weight savings.

The Lotus Elise and Honda S2000, on the other hand...

Just got to what ever setting you want it to be.. for example if you want a soft-key set to call a number or navigate you to an address go over the button on the iDrive like you would have normally then hold the soft-key [number 1-9]

I hate the manual as a daily driver though. I gotta be in the mood to tear it up in the M.. C300 on the other hand is a perfect daily. But sucks as a car to have fun w/t, love my M!!!

Turn off traffic info setting. Traffic info prevents day or night mode from working, and only shows map in a drab gray/green color, with no real benefit of showing any extra traffic info.
Also, if you are using split screen, the exit ramp view does show day and night modes, separately from the main map. If the main map is in traffic info mode, the exit ramp view is unaffected, and will switch back and forth still.

Maybe the US maps are different but my maps are not green and I have TI turned on. Perspective mode is pretty sweet with terrain showing up in 3D. Haven't tried night mode since I haven't found the day mode excessively bright at all.

The is a NAV map option for a Traffic Info specific version of the map. Everything is grayed out except the traffic information. This mode is separate from day/night normal map display. Right click, select Display Settings I think.

...I assume none of this is applicable for an `08 Nav?

Correct, only applies to MY 2009 and later (CIC-based systems and not the older CCC-based ones).

I'll look into that and get post me results. FWIW, my car has 2Q 2008 Euro maps loaded. I'd think there were newer maps available for a 2010 model car.

It's not a navigation map data option, it's an iDrive Navigation Map settings option.

Wanna get really aggravated? Automatic changing from Day to Night mode is an option on the 7 series. It is basically the same iDrive/Nav system but on a 2010 750Li it automatically changes over to Night Mode in low light. Why they didn't put that in the 3 series is beyond me...
