BMW M3 GTS is SOLD OUT

Name: sold.jpg
Views: 9306
Size: 198.4 KB

Sorry everyone in Europe and the UK, looks like the GTS is completly sold out. Despite the very high price tag and talk that the price did not represent a good value, it seems that BMW had it right the whole time. They were able to move everyone of these cars very quickly. The actual production volume for this car has not been revealed but production will begin in May 2010.

To Recap: This is the M3 GTS

I too think its a lot scratch and no - I can't afford it. However, I do think for what you receive it is a good value and if I had the money I wold buy one. When you think about what some are spending to mod out their M3, give me the real deal from the factory - especially when you compare long term value.

This car is more likely than not going to be a classic, an all time great. I am sure a lot of people would pay a lot more than what BMW charged to acquire one in years to come.

limited..... but I have a feeling that some of its parts will trickle down to the regular M3, soon. Like the wheels.

While the production may be "sold out," that doesn't mean that BMW actually sold all those cars to individuals. I'm willing to bet that a bunch of them were sold, en masse, to driving schools, performance outfits like World Class Driving, etc. Maybe even the M-School? More were sold to speculators (granted, with the cash) who wish to hold onto the cars in the hopes of selling them off at a profit. I'm also willing to bet that a bunch were sold to the usual suspects - Saudi royal family, various sultans, billionaires, etc. Maybe a few to race teams? Very few were actually sold to even moderately-wealthy individuals, and fewer will be actually driven.

This was expected due to all the modifications the M division needed to make in order to build this lightweight racing inspired M3.

The GTS model is being hand-built in the M division's shop (not on the Regensburg factory production line), so they are limited number to the number of orders they can accept to max out there production capabilities.

The M division shop is very small, and the labor force is limited.

Also, I'm surprised no one else noticed this yet, but The Top Speed article actually got the weight spec wrong (again)...

The M3 GTS is not 190 lbs. lighter than the current street legal M3. It's actually 190 kgs lighter than the standard M3. (419 lbs.)

M3 GTS = 1390kg = 3285 lbs.

M3 Coupe = 1680kg = 3704 lbs.

Well at least that's what has been reported from the "official" sources.

The reality is those weight numbers are all wrong (it's not a true apples-to apples comparison)...

Unladen weight (DIN) for the M3 GTS vs. Unladen weight (EU) for the standard M3 Coupe are using two different weight standards.

M3 GTS (DIN weight standard) = 1390kg (3285 lbs.) total.

M3 Coupe (EU weight standard*) = 1680 (3704 lbs.)

*The EU weight standard includes a 90% fuel load, a 68kg driver...and 7kg of luggage. (+75kg total for driver and luggage)

So quick math reveals...

1680 kg - 75 kgs = 1605 kg (3560 lbs. converted to meet DIN weight standards)

So the real weight difference between the M3 GTS and the production M3 Coupe is...

3538 lbs. - 3285 lbs. = 253 lbs.

So much for news outlets (like Top Speed) 'checking their facts' before they release them to the world.

That's funny. I remember say at the time to South that I had heard the weight difference was approx 200kgs and on checking some of the reports it ended up to be approx 200lbs. You laugh these things off as typos and just get on with it but thanks for the info because it means that the earlier info passed to me was indeed right on the money.

I hope so. I fell in love with these wheels and would buy a set over everything else that is available now.
