Horrible experience with two different dealers, gotten to be to much hassle!
What is it about BMW dealerships that make them so hard to deal with these days, dealership A, I've purchased 7 cars from in the past, have always been loyal to bring my cars there, but for some reason won't help me with my situation.
Problem A: My tires won't hold pressure, my car has 7k miles on it, plenty of tread life left, you let my car sit for sit for a day or two and you will find all 4 tires at 10-15 psi. Dealership A told me I had a nail in one tire but I needed to new tires anways so how about we just change them! 7k MILES!!!!! Problem B: My bluetooth sounds like I am connected with the person I am speaking to via two cans and string, they first blamed it on the fact I have a iphone with updated software after proving to them I have a BMW compati. 3.0 firmware on my phone they then told me its iphones in general! So I pulled my business line which is a blackberry out and it sounded the same, after 1.5 weeks waiting for the "puma" case to unfold it is still not fixed. Why the BS reasoning for stuff their product not performing properly. After getting fed up, since no one would call me back and the car has been there for almost 9 days, I went and picked it up prematurely, since the gentlemen told me he couldn't get the tires to duplicate the issue. When I got there, all 4 tires had 10 psi in them, I was infuriated. But the problem coudln't duplicate! The car has just been dropped off at Dealership B, the gentleman told me the reason for the tire pressure issue was I wasnt keep the tire pressure at BMWs recommended setting, 33/35, I told him I kept them at 34 all the way around, he had the audacity to tell me that could be the reason why the car wasn't holding pressure properly? Are you kidding me??? Sorry for the ramble, I am just fed up, not fed up enough to go buy a Lexus for their service but fed up enough to only buy used BMWs out of the factory warranty and deal with my amazing independent shop instead. |

I am not defending the dealership in any way, more trying to confirm my suspicion in regards to sound quality of phone, but my iphone sounds like crap on the car system too!!! Even when the phone is hard wired via the car adapter, it sounds muffled. I have current software, etc, haven't tried to get it fixed yet though.

i can see the phone being somewhat of a tricky issue, albeit a really annoying one...
but the tires??? holy crap, it just confirms that no matter how much you pay for your car, there's no guarantee the service will be up to the sticker price... i would have lost it on that d-bag good luck |

my tires lose lots of pressure fairly frequently as well. I have a compressor so I just fill them up once a week. i wonder if this issue is widespread...

My Porsche's rear tires had been losing pressure since day 1 and I had to keep refilling every month for 2 years. After I came back from a LV trip I had to fill up every few days. It turned out I had 2-3 nails on both tires, 1 giant one I probably got in LV. Got them fixed and ever since then it had not lose pressure that often any more.

I hate to admit it, but recently I have been receiving simular experice. I have purchase a bunch of BMWs friom this one dealership, and up until recently, have received only the best of service and courtesy. The last two visits however have not been to my standard, with sub-service levels of satisfaction. I now wonder if the current economic situation is having a negative effect on BMW customer service. I plan to follow up personally with some of the powers that be.

Given the economic situation you'd think the dealers would want to retain customers.
Parts, new OEM tires, additional sales--all of those are lost with BS like this. Not a wise move in any situation but especially when the potential market has shrunk. OP--did you try talking to the GM? |

As far as bluetooth, I have yet to own a car with decent sound, so make sure it's not 'the nature of the beast'. Listen to another one.
As far as the tires, that's not normal at all. Are those your stock tires? If yes, have you checked the TPMS sleeve? Make sure it's tight, or you'd lose pressure thru the valves. Also check that the valve cores are tight. If not stock tires, they were either improperly mounted (no lubricant on bead, etc), or shop didn't change the TPMS 'hardware' needed, which is new rubber gaskets, washers, and valve cores (and everything tight, of course). Good luck man, and keep us posted. Last edited by JCtx; 01-26-2010 at 09:16 PM.. |

OP
Don't believe the dealer! I made same mistake when first got the car,- they want you to get new tire when flat tire. NOT TRUE,- you can fix a flat even on RFT tire. Go to "flats fixed" shop, they'll do it fo $20... I have done it atleast 30 times on my RFT's already...driving in NYC, I get all kinds of crap in my tires, nails, screws etc,. I even bought a slightly used "Potenza RFT" tires from same shop when there was no thread left in my rear tires after 54k miles! Used Potenza RFT was $70 and it was only "slightly used" and "almost brand new"... great tire... I bought a set of two... never had a problem! Guess were your 7k miles tire go, after you get new one at dealer? It goes to a small "flats fixed" shop... they fix the flat on your new tire and sell it to me for $70 including balance!

Well bluetooth in general kinda sucks, imo. I have been in very few cars that had bluetooth where it didn't sound like a tin-can walkie-talkie.
But the tires issue is bs. That could potentially be very dangerous. No more dealer A for sure, skip dealers B-L and go straight to M. Its a shame there isn't a seperate service center for M's. |

BT in my GTI was a bit echo-y but in my friends 5-series and in my M it's crystal clear and we both have iPhones with software 3.0.
$10 says it's your TPMS sensor valve stems not fully tightened. If you can tighten them yourself give it a go. I had something similar happen on mt GTI after getting new tires. |

I think you can try tightening the valve stem to see if the TPM is the problem. Or just get some water and carefully put it in the valve to see if it bubbles. Next test would probably be a water tub test to see if it is a defect in the rims or it lies with in the tire.

Op like some have said best thing would be another dealer.

If one of my tires was consistently losing a noticeable amount of pressure, the 1st thing I would do is take off the wheel and give it a good going over or use some sort of liquid leak finder to spot leaks etc. I mean really... nails etc..Are pretty easy to spot just with the naked eye.. |
