Got my car back with a new tranny

Here is an update on this sad story. My 2009 E92 DCT was acting up with 2200 miles on it. After much testing they decided the DCT was faulty and replaced it. Now the car actually drives like it should. I had no idea the "M" light on the dash and "MDM" light were supposed to show when activated. I didn't know the EDC or power buttons on the consoul lighted up when you pushed them. Didn't ever feel a difference when I switched EDC settings. Well, the reason I never knew this is that none of these systems were working on the new car-probably related to the faulty DCT. Now they work. I am not too happy about this, shouldn't the factory and the dealer checked the car for normal system operations. Would have rejected the car if all these systems were inoperable when I picked it up. They had the car for 4 weeks when they replaced the DCT.
What should I ask for? I am thinking one month of car payments while they had the car changing the transmission. I think some compensation for lost use of the car for a problem that exsisted on delivery is in order. Thoughts?

Agree, at least one month of payments. Maybe some free schwag too?

I think a free month payment is the least you should get. Warranty is there for that exact reason that if something goes wrong they'll cover you, so most dealers don't really check that everything is operating properly. But your case is something a bit different, I mean even if they took it out for a test drive they should have noticed something was wrong. So I repeat, one month payment is the least you should ask for! Just my 2 cents!

the car should have went through a post-shipment inspection when the dealership received the car. This includes a test drive. Usually a junior technician is given this task as this activity makes the dealership no money. There should be a checklist as well. My guess is the technician skipped the check on most of the functions with your car. Your sales advisor should have went over everything with the car when you took delivery and it would have been evident the different status lights were not lighting up. There is something seriously wrong going on if this got by the delivery or the car was fine and the transmission broke after delivery. if the former, I would return the car as that is completely unacceptable for any new vehicle. i also would never return to this dealership as they can't even handle a simple vehicle check. would hate to see what they do with an oil change. If the latter, then really it wasn't the dealers fault and they did repair it under warranty. Hopefully gave you a loaner while you waited.

They should have given you a loaner for the time the car was down. If they did, forget about getting anything as they'll argue that they provided you with a vehicle and they'll win too.

As for the issues, yours seem like issues that should have been caught during PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection). PDI is an extra charge at the time of delivery since you paid for it, they should have done it and caught the issues.

Exclamation

I got TWO free services and an open book as too when I have them done, I had some issues on taking delivery, that was a good deal as servicing is expensive on these cars.

Just got off the phone with my salesman. He said he had another customer get compensated a cay payment for the time lost during service. He admits the car probably shut down the M dynamic modes and EDC controls with fault messages coming off the DCT. They should have noted it was not acting right at delivery-I was stupid, not knowing just how everything was supposed to function, thought I was just not using the controls correctly.

I would ask for PDI fee back. (That's more than your 1 mo. payment right?)

Any resolution? Too bad you had all these issues: car should not have been released to you.

You obviously have no idea what a lemon is. It had a problem, he took it in, it got fixed. By your definition any car that ever has a problem, even if it's fixed, is a lemon. Jeez...

Not really, a loaner is provided and is paid for by warranty!!!

And asking one months payment is fair!

It only lights up if you have M dynamic mode set up. This also goes for EDC and power settings and shift speeds.

To set up push menu on the i drive controller select M drive and here you can change your settings.

Glad to finally see that your car is working again.

Your dealer really screwed up on your M3's pre-delivery inspection...
