Launch procedure?
I read through the User manual and still can't activate the launch on my 08 E90 M3. Can anyone explain the procedures (step by step) to me? The first thing I want to try is to launch at 4500 instead of the 5000 default value.
Thanks, gundamz |

Use Search - Launch Control
From Search:
http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...launch+control Foot on brake, engage M mode, deactivate DSC completely, move to S6 (should stay with M mode engaged), foot off break, push lever forward = chequered flag, depress accellerator fully, engines bounces off 5500 rpm. I've got this far but not released it yet, waiting for dry, straight and safe road. Good luck.....Steve

Thanks Steve, it will be high 50s and dry tomorrow. Might give it a try. Any recommendation on what kind of pavement to launch from? I was thinking either parking lot smooth surface or the Asphalt?

What he said...
But also make sure the car is warmed up. If the car is too cold it will not engage launch control, and also it would be bad for the engine, tranny, and diff. |

I don't think you need to press the M button, just make sure DSC off and S6 mode. Or you can just have these settings all set up on the M button. I'm pretty sure you can adjust the RPMs with the cruise control stalk

I just tried it but can't get the checkflag to show up in the panel! Here are the steps I took:
1. Drive the car for 10 miles to warm it up. 2. Foot on the brake, hold down DSC and turn that off. 3. Push stick to the right to get S mode, then push button to 6 bars. 4. Push forward to the first stopping point (you can push it further) using the lower stick (not the signal stick). 5. Hoping to see the checker flag but it never appears. How long do I have to hold the stick until the flag shows up? I do see the triangle sign with the exclamation sign but I thought that's because I turned off DSC. Am I missing any steps here? Thanks, gundamz |

On your #4, you need to push the gear selector forward, not the stalk on the steering column. I made the same mistake the first time b/c the picture in the manual makes it looks that way. Try it again and prepare for liftoff.

BTW, brake is not necessary. I just did it. After I came to a stop I took my foot off the brake, DSC off, S6, pushed GEAR SELECTOR forward and got the flag.
Also, you have to have a minimum amount of mileage before it will be allowed; apparently about 1250 miles. |

You must be on level ground, where the car will not move forward or backwards. When you stop...take your foot off the brake, in fact your left foot will do nothing for the launch.
Now: Turn off DSC (push button) Select S6 Push the shift lever (not paddles) forward and hold. At this time the flag will show on the dash. If not, something was done wrong. Push your gas pedal to the floor and hold it there very tightly. Any movement of the gas pedal during the launch will end the launch. The car should read about 5000 rpms of so. If you now want to increase or decrease the revs, use the cruise control lever. Hey, I told you to not move your gas pedal from the floor!!!...he he. Pull the cruisee control lever to lower the revs...it drops about 100 or so rpms per pull. To raise the revs, push the cruise control lever as many times as you want. Let go of the shift lever but keep your foot floored...it'll be an amazing ride. DON'T LET GO OF THE GAS PEDAL FOR EVEN 1 MM OR THE LAUNCH WILL STOP. The car bump the rev limiter in the shift from 1st to second gear. Not to worry...the car will shift automatically for you as long as you don't....I won't repeat it...he he. Left foot does nothing...paddles do nothing...cruise control controls raising or lowering revs. Keep the car floored. Last edited by JIO; 01-15-2010 at 04:22 AM.. Reason: Wasn't finished |

The best is to launch on grass or a wet surface. You will move way quicker

@dhoggm3,
Once you came to a complete stop on level ground, hold down the DSC button and you should see the warning sign on the dash. That's the confirmation that you had successfully turned off DSC. Now if you look at the bars (AT&T logo), you should see one additional empty (not fill) bar appeared. Push that up arrow and now you have S6 engage. BMW is awesome in designing/engineering cars but not so good with documentation. - gundamz |

OK, 3.5K mls on the car and figured it was time to try this. Did all the steps, got the flag and took off like a bat out of hell...but I must of done something wrong cuz I red lined the shit out of 1st gear and it didn't sift to second on its own. Literally the engine hit the limiter and power just dropped. Wasn't real pretty! I quickly paddled to second. I am guessing maybe I took my foot off the pedal for a split second? Would that cause it not to shift automatically? Thoughts?

And can't we launch in S5/MDM too? We don't need to be in S6/DSC Off if I recall correctly (I haven't tried launching yet ).
