Cornering lights question

Anyone knows exactly when the cornering lights (set of lights in the headlights that are closest to grill) are intended to come on and off?

From what I can tell, they come on when I activate the turn signal (probably at low speeds). They also seem to come on (both sides) when I reverse for some reason.

Is there an exhaustive spec for when they are supposed to get activated?

Just wondering...

I think it's something like this...

ON with Turn Signals, OFF if no turn is made within 10 seconds or so, must be under 25 MPH
ON with significant turn of steering, OFF when steering re-centers
ON when reversing

Unfortunately, that's the way we have to learn most of this stuff; freaking manual is a joke .

Didn't know about reverse (since I'm looking BACK ) and turn signals (rarely drive this car at night), so learned something new today . Take care gang.

I've never noticed mine come on with the turn signal, nor in reverse. But as others said, I don't drive at night much in my M nor do I look forward when reversing

I know I read somewhere (I "think" in the manual) that they come on when turning and moving less than like 25mph or something like that. That's the only time I've ever noticed them is when navigating thru my apt parking lot to work in the wee hours of the morning.

I think you have to turn your headlights to "A" aka auto mode with green lights on next to the knob. Correct me if this is wrong.

BTW, I didn't know it turns on when you're in reverse... lol glad to know!

Yes, the headlight switch has to be in the auto position and the cornering lights do come on while in reverse.
