Do the 2010 M3s have dct lag?

I skipped the 2008,and 2009 models for bmw to work out all the bugs and software issues, my biggest concern is the dreaded dct lag that everyone i spoke to has confirmed on 2008 and 2009 cars. Can anyone give me a definite answer on whether bmw has addressed fixing the dct lag, i definitely dont want to spend 60k on a car and end up regretting it later. Thanks

All you need is a program update. No need to buy a 2010 for this reason

Which "lag" are you referring to?

If you mean the throttle response lag after hard braking and multiple downshifting, this has been resolved with software update.

If you mean the throttle response lag at rolling speeds, this has been improved with software update, at least on my '08.

"Lag" now seems to be a matter of perception (except for a few cars on this forum which may have serious issues). Some of us have gotten used to it, some don't even notice, some still have a hard time adapting to it...

To me, the car is now perfectly drivable.

My '09 is 7/09 production and drives absolutely fine. If you're getting a new one now, anything that you may perceive as "lag" will simply be what is referred to in post above and is just characteristic of the transmission (clutch engagement, etc.). I love mine...

To my knowledge, there are zero differences in DCT hardware between MY 08-10. The only differences have been software updates, so a 08 car can perform exactly the same as a 10.

feroce or SenorFunkyPants or bills742: Please try the Lag/Hesitation test listed below, then report back to this or the main topic thread at: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=231020:

How to observe the Lag/Hesitation: In D mode (lower S settings, aka, driving it like an "automatic") accelerate to ~40-50mph, break hard to say 5-10mph, then without stopping immediately try to accelerate. Welcome to Lag/Hesitation time

This typically happens when slowing for a left/right hand turn, then accelerating or slowing for a red light that just turned green, then accelerating. Either way, it continues to be a safety hazard for either getting T-Boned or slammed in the rear! As others have stated in other threads, BMW Techs seem to be able to routinely reproduce this safety issue.
Note: This happens with version 2.34.1 or earlier ISTA-P SW (although with v2.34.1 it is less of an issue, but still present)

I have a 03/09 build date e92 which had lag present when I purchased it in October but had it in for a software update cause I was able to reproduce it for a mechanic and have had no problems since.

It's still there on 2010 models (drove one a couple days ago) and my 09, but the software update has dramatically reduced the safety issue. It was a dead family waiting to happen before the update.

I took my 08 E90 M3 6MT in for an oil change and drove a space gray E92 M3 and even thought I couldn't get on it I was rather impressed with how smooth the shifts where. I have a feeling my next will have a DCT or PDK <-- Sorry I've been looking at looking at ze other german vehilces.

I have 7/09 build, and I tried this hard braking with 3 downshifts from 100km/h to 20 and then accelerated to 100 again about 4 times back to back on a empty side road and haven't found any lag what so ever. But when driving slow at about 20km/h in 2nd and you downshift to 1st and accelerate there is that 0.7 sec lag. And boy is that 0.7 sec ever so long.

I'm not sure whether maybe I need to drive the car a bit more, I only have 7,000 km on it for about 6 months.

But I got over this I told myself, I didn't buy a luxury car here, I bought pretty much a race car. So I accept it and I guess that's how it will be. And hey you shouldn't really be driving slow with this car anyways (jk)

Actually mine has the opposite problem and I mentioned in when I went in for my 1200 mile oil change. What i mean by that, as I am stopping, the car seems to lunge forward a bit at it is downshifting. My guess is that this happens because of throttle blips even at low rpms but I am not 100% sure. However, during the tests you mentioned in D mode, mine downshifts to 1st and off i go, so no issues there. In S mode, it is a bit slower due to relatively low torque under 2k rpm, but I still do not see any lag. However, I do hear the clutch engaging, so even if it is in 2nd at time, it could be disengaged when I am giving it throttle. Still, cannot say I notice lag, it starts moving right away, albeit not as fast.

I will give it a go just as soon as the snow clears off our local roads and I can risk heavy braking....however I have done a lot of miles since I had mine updated in all gear modes and have not had a single lag incidence but I will give your test a go as soon as..
