So no lumbar support sucks after 2 hours in traffic

So I didn't get the sports package which means I didn't get the sports seats. Problem is I don't have lumbar support and after a look week stuck in traffic I'm starting to feel the effects. What are you guys using for lumbar support if you dont have the seats??

Join the club...I also regret not getting the sport package.

Two things that kept me away from the sport package: the M Wheel (I want an M, but I don't want my 1 claiming M; many of you like it, and I admit it is bad @$$, I just didn't want it on my 1), and the Shadowline Trim. I've had that black trim on the exterior of my other car...and it fades horribly over time. Even that Back to Black stuff doesn't work that well.

Other than that, everything about the sport package is great. In retrospect, i wish I did get it.

The M Wheel is great and the ///M is small and understated. Easy to live with.

You shouldn't be worried about what other people think. Unless you're going around saying you're car is an ///M, no one is gunna call you a poser. ///M steering wheels are one of the best things to add to non-M bimmers (I put one on my 325Ci a couple years ago and it's one of my fav mods). The shadowline trim is glossy too, so I don't think it'll fade like the regular plastic trim. Now, back on topic...

lumbar is part of the premium package, not the sport package.

Lumbar is on the power seats. Manual seats don't have lumbar, just width adjustment. Sport seats have the tilt adjust, standard seats don't.

Two options I always get on my BMW’s are the sports package and the premium package. My first 3 series did not have the sport or premium package. I did not care about the premium package back then but I had to do work on the suspension to get it the way it should have been.

You can get lumbar support cushions at auto accessories stores for this purpose.

Exactly. Get the lumbar cushion from the auto store, and make sure to get the one with the elastic band so it goes around your seat and holds it in place, or it will move around all the time. My 1 has Sport and the lumbar bit, but my ZX3 doesn't, and I truly had to makeshift a nice lumbar support bit on those seats.

Also, I didn't have it in my last 3 Series and missed it terribly. Lumbar is just so necessary, especially in traffic and long drives.

I just checked the BMW USA configurator. You can order power seats, as an option on the Sport Package for $995. You can also order the premium package for $3,400 - which includes power seats and lumbar support. Does anyone know if the non premium package power sport seats also include the lumbar support? Or do the $995 power seats just include the normal seat height, forward/backward adjustments? This is something that I had not noticed before. Is lumbar support just on the premium package option?

Lumbar is not a separate option in the USA. You either get it with the Premium Package (ZPP) or not at all. It does NOT come with the Sport Package (ZSP) or M-Sport (ZMP), nor does it come with the separate power seat option.

What he said. I didn't want a lot of the premium options so I just got leather, power and sport.....no lumbar support. Sport seats are damn comfy though, so I don't miss it a lot, little tweaks to seat tilt during long drives seems to keep my back happy.

Eggzactly! Power seats are included in the Premium Package so lumbar only comes with power seats - but power seats may come without lumbar if the ZPP is not ordered.

Correct...lumbar ONLY on Premium Package, not with power seats.

I had the same issues. Bought a lumbar pillow for long hauls, but annoying for short trips.

RealOEM has the parts for Lumbar in Sport Seats, not sure if it fits in Std Seats. Even the manual sport seats have a power source, it looks like an easy mod. I may give it a shot.

Although, I use to be in immense pain within 5 minutes, I started concentrating on strengthening my back and stretching. It's made a HUGE difference, just sitting upright in the seat is working just fine.

Unless I am reading this wrong, here is what is needed to add lumbar to sport seats (excluding clips and other < $1 parts):
LORDOSIS PAD @ $27.34 x 4 = $109.34
LEFT LUMBAR SUPPORT SWITCH @ $46.87 x 1 = $46.87
RIGHT LUMBAR SUPPORT SWITCH @ $46.87 x 1 = $46.87
Lumbar support pump @ $270.07 x 2 = $540.14
Switch @ $18.19 x 2 = $36.38

Total is $780. Throw in a few required clips and shipping and it will hit over $800. Although it does not specify, I believe that is for both driver and passenger as I can't imagine one seat needing 4 pads and 2 pumps. So figure $400 per seat.

Non-sport seats appear to be ~$30 cheaper ($15 per side) as only need 2 LORDOSIS PAD @ $40.46 x 2 = $80.92.

Not sure of the labor involved but I would imagine at least a couple of hours from people who know what they are doing.

Yes, and in my opinion this is one of the stupidest packaging decisions I've seen. Why on earth is lumbar not included in the power seat package??? I have to spend $3,000 and get a bunch of other features I don't particularly need to get it???

I've lumbar support but I don't find it useful. Or I just haven't find the right spot. I guess I just have a screwed up back. It should fit where your lower back is right?
