Who wins the title for highest insurance?
Hi all. I love my car but the insurance cost is killing me. I've had a less-than-stellar driving history, but nothing ridiculous. A speeding ticket, illegal turn and at-fault accident withing the last three years in California has brought my rates up to just under $300 bucks a month! I was wondering if there is anyone out there who shares in my misery. I know no one who pays those kinds of rates.
Also, any brilliant ideas on how to legitimately but cleverly figure out a way to get a better rate? Traffic school and just shopping around haven't gotten me anywhere, but I'm hoping some great mind out there can think of a better way for me. Thanks! |

You pay seven times what I pay. Your insurance is not only based on your driving record but your credit rating as well. if you don’t have a great credit rating try working on that.
I think you win!

California is one of the few states that cannot use credit as a factor in determining insurance rates.
Your zip code and age would be the other big determining factors... but those aren't so easy to change. I would suggest shopping around. Each insurance company has different rates for different classes of driver. But, with that driving record you would definitely be seeing higher rates as you would not get the good driver discount. One other thing you might consider would be increasing your deductibles say from 500 to 1000. Or drop towing coverage if they include that in the policy since you have BMW roadside assistance...

Sorry to hear that.....$408 is ridiculous. Definitely take a defensive driving
course, check your credit, and shop around, which I'm sure you already did! When I was shopping for insurance I tried every major company and the prices ranged from 2100 to 3300 per year. The private insurance salesmen offered the worst deal--no surprise there. I think you win....

$79 a month. many speeding tickets (most thrown out in court). In florida, in never makes sense not to fight the speeding ticket. Ive had some ones where i was obviously guilty thrown out, no points. No accidents that were my fault.

If you are military, or former, try USAA. They are the best in the industry. Otherwise, AMICA is a close second, followed by Geico, Allstate, Progressive and State Farm. Not sure what we will be paying when the 135 comes, but I pay $$198 a month for a E55, X5 4.4 and GT-R with USAA. Then again, good credit, and old!

I pay $479 a month for with only a speeding ticket in the last 3 years. Should expire later this year but I'm not expecting much improvement. This is Florida hell insurance through Geico and they were the cheapest. Also my age and credit rating has to do with it, I'm working on the credit stuff..
