Worst day of my life :( did i buy a lemon?

Hi guys,

i am trying to hold back tears as i write this.. i took my 1er to get serviced for the second time since i got it in july because of this ticking noise i would hear in my engine when i would start it and it was cold... turns out that they are going to replace my cylinder head which is like a 5g job.. i am fighting to have my car replaced i just don't want a car i can't sell or that isn't worth the 55g i paid for it.... i am just feeling the worst i ever have about something i wanted so bad.... what do i do?

You shouldn't have to pay for anything so wait patiently for them to fix your car and enjoy it after its fixed. I don't understand your issue; yes, its been in twice for the same issue and that definitely sucks, but its more of a hassle than a crisis.

what if i want to re-sell it some day would you want to buy a car that had a cylinder head replaced under 10000k???? I paid for a car that wouldn't have these problems...

Feel optimistic about what? So they're replacing the cylinder head, big deal. It's not like it devalues the car like an accident would.

Demand a nice loaner, let them fix it, and go on with life.

BTW, I'd be crying if I spent $55K on my 1er, not because it was getting a new cylinder head.

What state are you in? The laws differ from state to state.

Dont worry mine has been in 3 times for the same issue. Things happen.

Replacing a cylinder head is not a huge deal. A friend of mine replaced one at the race track by himself..... he didn't miss a session and finished in the top 10. This was 12 years ago and he still has the car.

Just out of curiosity - is it just the sound of the injectors? Our Mini makes the same racket when it's cold.... so does a friend's 328 sedan. My 128 doesn't, but I'm guessing it's because the garage never gets below about 45F.

I don't know it sounded like it had a sticky valve lifter I had to leave it overnight so that it was cold when they started to car to try to hear the noise the first time i brought it in the car was too warm and they never heard it.. it was doing it everytime i would start it and it was cold and it didnt sound pleasant...

So what most of you are saying is that you do not think this problem will in any way depreciate the value of my vehicle and someone who would want to buy it in 3-4 years wouldn't care that it had $5g of engine repairs??

Of course not. If BMW repaires it properly, it won't impact any thing. Just curious, not trying to be rude, but are you a woman or fairly young by any chance? PM me the response if you don't want to share publicly.

+1

This is a pain in the ass, but otherwise no big deal at all. An accident would potentially devalue your car - a warranty repair, even a serious one like this, will not.

Agreed. I don't understand what the big deal is. It is the first issue you had with the car. Stuff happens. A cylinder head wont de-value the car one bit...

Believe it or not, your issue is relatively common. I've seen many, many cars including my own have the work done for the ticking. No big deal, it's under warranty & it won't hurt a thing

I think you're way over-reacting. A warrantee repair is no biggee. If a part wears or fails and BMW replaces it for free your car is worth just the same as if it didn't happen. Have them give you a nice loaner and your car should end up like new when they're done.
