Shipped my car to Hawaii, and it got F'd up!
Last month I moved to Hawaii on military orders and shipped my 2 month old 09 135i to Hawaii. I picked her up today, and oh man, it was horrific. My back bumper and diffuser are totally trashed. Its like another car was bumping up against it for the entire voyage. Furthermore, while it was on a car carrier a vehicle on top of it must have dripped gas or oil on the hood, headlight and bumper because it severely discolored the paint. Its like the clear coat was yellowed or something. I'm sure I'll be compensated by the shipping company and or military, and I'll be darn sure I'm compensated well. I'm also sure it'll be fixed good as new but I'll still know it happened. I'll post some pics tomorrow when I'm not so bummed out.

Sorry to hear that. I have to ship my car back to the states from Germany in July. I still don't know if I want to use the militarys shipping company. Or have the dealer ship it. both are free...
I hope you get it all taken care of easily. |

Ouch!!
I am currently in Germany also in the military, when I head back to the US I am NOT going to have the military ship it home. I have heard so many horror stories about them and yours is just added to that. Stories like whatever they use to life them into crates if they crate them and the crates tipping over, or the vehicles falling of lifts and stuff. No thanks! Will be doing dealer shipping all the way and just sucking up the drive to pick it up. GL Getting it fixed though! |

Whenever I ship I always use insurance, that way it is always covered for any types of damages.

I wish the Army would order me to move to Hawaii!
But it really sucks that your car got so F-ed up in shipping... I have heard all kinds of horror stories about stuff happening to cars while being shipped overseas. BTW I am in the Canadian Military...

Sorry to hear of your bad luck. Way back when we PCS'd we had the same problem. The total damage was $230 to the vehicle...that would be about $4000 in todays body shop dollars.
Thanks for your service from an old Ground Pounder. |

I second all that most are saying, get some serious documentation and take it to a mechanic (not one they will recommend to you) so you can get a honest breakdown of the damage and if it caused anything other than outer damage.
Good luck, hope everything comes out ok.
