steptronic, hit rev limiter is sport mode?

I am a little confused, I thought the sport mode was supposed to shift when you hit around 6800 and you should not hit the rev limiter unless you are in manual mode.

Can someone clarify? I had it floored and it bounced off the revlimiter. Felt like I hit a wall. This is my first auto, so I dont know what Im doing .

Did it downshift? I ask because there is a resistant point in the pedal. If you pass this point the car downshifts and you hit a wall.

it happen so fast, I was not expecting this so I let off. So its believed that if I did not hit the kick down it would not have hit the limiter?

If the kick down is causing you to downshift, are you supposed to floor it past the kickdown point and then prior to redline let up on it? Its a just a little confusing

thanks!

I was under the impression the automatic in sport mode will hold a gear regardless of RPM...but it will hit the fuel shut off valve (which I think is the "wall") but will not up- shift. Maybe an automatic owner can verify this or correct me if Im wrong.

You know i've always shifted before it hi that point. Around 67 or 6800. I honestly don't know. All I know is that resistance point in the pedal will cause an automatic downshift to the lowest gear that your current speed will allow. Its usually 3rd. but it will shift to 2nd if it needs to.

that's odd that it held the gear at redline (if I understood correctly). I'm positive the step will not hold the gear..the tranny will shift @ redline if you dont upshift with paddles/gear selector...It is the ONLY thing I dislike about the ZF step on the 135. Someone on some thread a few weeks back said that if u upshift at redline and HOLD the gear selector down, that the tranny will hold the gear. I never tried it..it doesnt sound like a smart move..but other than that, it will upshift @ redline in any mode.

ok, thats what i sort of suspected...i actually test drove a 128i automatic when i was shopping, but after driving it (they didnt' have any automatic 135i's when i went) i just knew it wasn't for me. i didn't like the automatic upshifting you are describing.
thanks for the info.

Well the problem with your situation is that the 128 auto has a GM sourced auto while the 135i has a ZF auto. There two completly different transmissions.
