1st unscheduled Trip to Service on 135i
Picked up my car on the 28th of Nov and have 2241 miles on it. This is not a daily driver for me so the issues could have presented themselves much sooner. I have noticed very long cranks to start the engine about a week after I took delivery. Loss of power has been noticed as well. Finally the check engine light came on last night along with me closing the trunk yesterday and the 3rd brake light lens falls completely out. This is the 1st time out of many many cars I have owned to have such problems right from the start. I am assuming it is the High Pressure Fuel pump BMW is having issues with. I will let everyone know what the final word is when I get the vehicle back.
Anyone else have like issues? |

A lot of people have all those same issues. It is deffinitely the HPFP and the lens is a known problem too from them being tightened down too hard at the factory. Last i heard the HPFP and lenses were being replaced by warranty.

it's all under warranty, just an unexpected inconvenience to take it in for repair. I have 4200 problem-free miles on mine so far under very mixed driving conditions from trips to the store, daily driving to work, and even long distance highway runs. I hope the car continues to be reliable, the HPFP is definitely my biggest concern.

I'm sorry, but if I shut my trunk and the rear brake (break) light falls out I'm gonna fly to Germany and shove it up the 1er designer's a$$... that's just rediculous on a $40K car. I wouldn't expect something like that to happen on a new Kia, let alone a BMW. How embarrassing.
With all of the rattles and creaks I'm having, and then reading about issues like this, I wonder if I bought a $39K motor and trans and a $1k chassis, body and suspension. End rant. I need a beer. Happy Monday.

you pretty much did, 1'er is a very cookie-cutter BMW, especially compared to an ///M car or 5/6/7 series, it still offers a lot of value and features though and the performance is not bad

Yup the HPFP and the 3rd brake light are weaknesses on the 1. Mine fuel pump is replaced with the newer pump with 881 model and so far no problem.

the 3rd brake light is a terrible design, why they have a large mount pulling the brake lens through the hole like that? I cant figure out what they were trying to do, a simple led light bolted to the trunk is too simple for bmw to use?!?

My 135i has been in the shop multiple times for mysterious dashboard rattles that come up. one time a screw came out and just started rolling around in it. And as far as the third taillight is concerned. Mine began to crack aliitle bit around the rim of it. It hasnt fallen out yet though.

Mine finally fell out today, probably weather related. It's had a small crack in the middle ever since I can remember. The plastic feels very flimsy. So glad this happened in my driveway and not on the road.

I was surprised a 2009 built 135 still had the fuel pump issue. I thought they start putting the new fuel pump after 3/2008 build.

Update: BMW center replaced the HPFP and also the rear brake light. Dropped it off Monday and got the vehicle back today. I do notice a power difference (gain) with the replacement pump. Doing a road trip this weekend so hope that the gremlins are all worked out. Glad the 3rd Brake Light is fixed since the rain is coming this weekend. All is well in 1 series land for now.

The problem was reported for a car purchased in November last year, so it can't be 2009 built, however it can be MY09.

This morning I discovered my 3rd brake light on the ground broken in two.
My first thought was random teenage vandalism, but after reading this post it seems there must be a design flaw. |
