Warning Light next to Trip Odometer

What does the exclamation warning triangle mean to the left of the trip odometer? I searched the forum but couldn't find the same issue. The warning goes on and off, but stays mostly on. Couldn't successfully find it in the owner's manual.

I can get pictures later if necessary. Thanks

I believe there's a way for you to go through your diagnostics menu. Consult your manual..

Mine actually came on today as well and stayed on. Same desciption as yours, although, that's the generic notification icon.

I checked the information screen on my iDrive and it displayed low oil and stating I need to add a quart. With only a WalMart around, I got 1 quart of 5w30 castrol fully synthetic oil.

There is lever with a button on left side of column. Press the button until you get menu info, then you can scroll over messages using small slider on the same lever.

Oh that must be my wiper fluid, because the large warning for that comes and goes (especially on inclines heh). Been too lazy to refill that. Thanks!

It could also be due to the gas tank hitting "reserve" (on mine about 2.7 gallons). It's somewhat annoying as it eliminates the "tenths" reading on the trip odo.

warning lights

Any time you receive a warning message, low washer fluid, flat tire, cold weather, DTC, etc, you will see the big yellow icon displayed in the dash, but also the warning icon will appear near the trip odometer. Depending on the warning, the icon will remain near the trip until the problem is rectified. I.E. in the event of cold weather, the icon appears and disappears a few seconds later. If you have DTC on, the small icon near the trip odometer remains until you turn DTC back off. Similarly, low washer fluid, or flat tire, while the large yellow icon may vanish from the dash 'screen', the icon will remain near the trip odometer until the washer fluid is filled, or the flat tire sensor is reset.

It's just BMW's little way of reminding you something needs attention, without blocking your clock, temp, and fuel stats on the dash. If the yellow icon remains on the dash, you can push the end-button on the blinker stalk to return to the clock, temp, etc. but the small icon will remain by the trip odometer as a reminder.

Hope this helps!

Cheers!

Anytime the warning triangle is lit you can scroll through the menus to the "Check" function and it will display the original warnings again.
