Cool Sunroof or No Sunroof?

I saw this one on the M3 posts..kind of an interesting topic for 1 series owners. As we all know, it is an option to not have a sunroof on the M3 because of the CF roof. Also as we all know, the sunroof comes standard on the 1-coupe...

I now own the 1-convertible, but my other car (2006 Altima) has a sunroof and I love it.....its open nearly everytime I drive, even in the hot florida sun. I love hearing the open road.

Now...I'm just curious, for all the COUPE OWNERS ONLY. Would anyone NOT want the sunroof given the chance??? I see very little performance gain from the minimal weight it saves and unless you are very tall (over 6'5") it is not obtrusive....
But thats my opinion....

If you vote "Yep".....why?

I'd keep mine. I like having a fast car that's still very comfortable and relaxing. I enjoy having the windows down and the roof open when the weather is good, and I missed having a sunroof on my GTO. If it scrubs off a tenth of a second around the track, I'm OK with that because this is my primary vehicle, not a track toy, and it's important that I enjoy driving it to work as much as I enjoy taking it to the track.

I like the sunroof a lot! Hmmm if this was say 2 years from now and I am more into racing or just becomeing more of a car enthusiast I might say no sunroof. But as it stands today, I like it.

Because of the generous headroom in the 1 I can't really complain. Would I like the car to be lighter? Yes. But, I'm finding that I'm using the 'roof on this car a lot more than my previous vehicles. It might have something to do with the better wind deflector...

I love my sunroof. The shade is open 365 days of the year in every sunroof equipped car I have owned. It makes the car feel a lot more airy. It also never gets old seeing a 737 on approach into EWR.

I voted no but only casue i use the car as my daily driver. if this was a second car to a daily driver i would opt for no sunroof, especialy if i was going to track it and race it. In my M3 it has a sunroof but its not glass. i actualy liek that better than the glass.

Where I live, the sunroof in my Focus isn't open all that much. It is nice when it is open, but I wouldn't cry if I didn't have it.

That being said, I'm on the fence about this issue. I would be curious to see what the price differential would be, but I guarantee you, the sunroof issue would never be a factor in purchasing a 1.

Well, here in Aus, sunroof is an option... and we pay approx $1900 AUD for the privilege. My car will be used as a daily driver, so being tenths of a second faster, or having the car slightly less rigid, and a little heavier up top doesn't bother me.

I am a big fan of sunroofs. When you are stuck in traffic in Chicago, it is nice to be able to look up at all the architecture.

I do not open the sunroof. I do not even open the shade.
I tried everything to delete it. I even offered my CA cash.
I don't race, but I would love a CF roof (painted AW of course)
Years from now the anthracite headliner would look much nicer than the gray.

Never use sunroof. It is noisy on highways and no a/c replacement on city streets.

I honestly never use it.. I forget it's there. So I guess I'd rather not have it and save the few pounds, as small as that weight is.

I love my sunroof... however my M has the CF and I love it on AW. If it was an option I think an AW ONE with CF roof would be just as good looking and would chose that over sun roof!!! But I'll keep my sunroof as Sedona Red would look horrible with CF

I'd have it off the build sheet faster than you can say "Crappy headroom eating frivolity." It's not that I hate sunroofs, but I also don't have a use for em.

I would have loved to have an extra inch for the top of my head. Instead of the Illusion of infinite headroom. Especialy since the best position for my arms and legs puts my head about 1/4 inch into the head liner.

I use my sunroof from time to time and enjoy it but it's really something I could live without. When ordering the car, I would have deleted it as an option if I could.

Well I ordered my car with no sun roof first of all I don't like it and benefits of not having it are less weight, more rigid, looks better and one more less thing to go wrong. I think part of my hate is that I had a vert for 4 and half years and I think if the I want an opening in the roof a small rectangle wouldn't so its either all roof off or all roof closed, and I didn't want another vert so coupe without a sunroof it was

Coming from a roadster, the sunroof was a must. In fact, it was the one option my wife insisted on. Having an anthracite headliner, I think the interior would be awfully dark without it (which is also one reason I've grown to love my aluminium trim).

I'm in the process of ordering a 135i coupe right now, and I would definitely delete the sunroof, for the weight savings, and especially if the cost savings was ~$1,000 (USD). Unfortunately, we don't get the choice in the States.

It's a $1,500 option in Canada and I'm really on the fence as to whether I would order it or not. Love it when it's open, and I like the extra daylight even when it's closed. But in the long term, it's one other thing to develop rattles, squeaks or require repairs. And it's $1,500 that I could use for something else.

I would never make the decision based on weight reduction, though. 35lbs is 35lbs, but it's really of little consequence in the real world.
