Stretching the tire = negative?
Hey guys,
Well I got my snows on - 205/50/17, BMW recommended size - and they looked stretched to me. In fact they looked stretched to a few of my "car guy" buddies too. I'm just wondering if stretch tires will suffer from any sort of adverse effects? Thanks! |

A stretched tire exposes the rim more than a tire that is overlapping the lip of the rim. Other than that it really isn't a big deal. Besides narrower tires are better for the snow from what I have heard.

Stretched...as in you feel you've mounted too narrow a tire on too wide a wheel?
A 205-50-R17 will live quite happily on an 8" wide wheel. I just did the same in fact, mounting a set of Nokian Hakkapeliitta 5 tires in that size on 17x8 Sport Edition F10 wheels (with BMW centre caps).

Thanks for the info guys! I knew the info would come, just needed some encouragement - hahah
Ya, it looks like I mounted too narrow tires on too wide a wheel....but if everyone's saying that it's not a problem, I feel better. I just wanted to make sure nothing bad would come of this. |
