Low Tire Pressure

Hi All,

I have the 135i coupe with sports pack. Just moved to Minneapolis and having probs with the tire pressures since the low tire pressure signal tirns on every now and then. I know my car has the 17 inches summer/performance tires. Just wondering if its necessary to change to winter tires. If yes any recommendations. Also is there anything I can do for the frequent low tire pressures.

Its only in the lower 20's right now with almost no snow. Heard it gets into the -teens in Jan and Feb with lots of snow.

When the temperature goes down, your tire pressure will go down. This could be the cause of your low pressure warning.

Also, you definitely need snow tires. You shouldn't drive on the stock performance tires if it is below freezing out (anything below 40 degrees really) even if there is no snow. The tires will be hard and you will have no traction. Search around this forum and you can find lots of suggestions on what snow tires to get. (I think you probably 18" performance tires, btw).

Once you have topped off the tires in cold weather, they shouldn't need it again (at least not for several months). If you're having to constantly put air in them you probably have a leak. On my car all four valve stem nuts were loose and it would cause random leaks that took a while to figure out.

Have your dealership (or a tire shop, Sears found my problem) check them out to make sure they're at the proper torque. You can overtighten them, so be careful if you do it yourself. It seems that this is a pretty common issue.

Thx for the replies. The tire had a nail in it and thus the low pressure. Got it changed. God it costs a lot and hopefully the tire and wheel insurance I had taken will cover it. Also regarding the winter tires and ideas for a cheap winter tire option which might go on my 18''.

Thanks

Check tire pressure often, colder weather is associated with loss of tire pressure.
